Yeah I totally get that mindset. For me I'd be more than happy to try something before it goes. I started off with cigars so I'm used to buying singles, often limited edition, so getting a tin of discontinued pipe tobacco is quite a deal for me because that's around 15 bowls of it compared to only trying it once.
At this stage of the game, I’m definitely cool with trying an old blend that I know I can’t get again. Honestly if offered an old tin of a genre I know I don’t like, I’d probably save it for a box pass (anyone heard from Fletch lately, btw?), PMSS, or swap it.
If I were still buying stuff here and there to find “my groove”, not so much…
A lot of people are worried about the drop in quality in whatever continues, lucky for me I'm new enough that I won't know the difference. A lot of people hate the modern STG version of SRW but I love it and that was my first non aro, it's what turned me onto pipe smoking.
Agree. I’m new enough to be not tainted by a disappointing change, so I’m glad the current ones I like are there.

I have no idea if they had a date on their tin or if the current Peterson ones do but so many don't.

FYI: STG tin date codes:

I'm the op. Thanks so far for all the suggestions and information. I'm going to purchase some already mentioned in the thread so far.
I had one on my want list that I already can't find ANYWHERE... Sutliff Christmas Spice. Every place I've called or website that I've looked at is sold out. I had sampled some of it , and was really wanting to buy more, but it's NOWHERE to be found.

Yeah I'm with you on passing on blends genres you don't care for. Molto Dolce is the only aromatic I've had that I really cared for but I have no desire to get more even in light of it possibly being discontinued; if not less so because I'd rather let aro fans stock up on it. I also have no desire to try any floral Lakelands because they're very polarizing and I don't want to risk ghosting a pipe with what I perceive to be a soap taste. I had a chance to get some War Horse last time I was at a pipe shop but I passed because that one has a polarizing taste and I'm sensitive to nicotine which it apparently is high in.

I cant get Stutlif so its a moot point. Im not buying a lot of MacB. I will slowly add a few tins of HH Latakia Flake but nothing rash. I enjoy it but I can live without it and no one knows if its leaving the lineup. Im ordering a roll cake or two just becuase I havent tried them yet...probably Stockton. Im concentrating on building a cellar of things that I can get with less trouble (no bulk tobacco in the EU). My goal is not a super wide cellar. Im looking to have 6-10 blends I REALLY like. With that I will be good.

Remember, a little is a lot. Over the course of a year it will mellow some. The Icyness will mellow. You can always add more to the mix. It’s harder to subtract. Enjoy. It goes great with chocolate.
Mink and chocolate is a favorite of mine so I look forward to it. I've been wanting to mix a batch since you first posted on it.

I will float this here for the experts, but I read Russ Oulette blends in their current form will be hit particularly hard by Sutliff's closing. I have never smoked anything I did not enjoy from that man, so if you like any of his stuff and what I read is correct, you may want to load up on those.

Honestly, I am under a ton of stress and my memory is kinda shit these days, but i think it was due to pending demise of Sutliff toasted burley? But I could be way off.

Harris was egging me on. He was telling me what the prices would be and such. I knew and still know that I have no interest in selling, but at least he predicted what the market would be. He might have been a creepy perv, but he knew what people would be willing to pay.
It just occurred to me...I have an extra line of TAD defense against my wife:

"This guy Harris...he's egging me on...FROM THE GRAVE!!"

How could she argue with that? I mean, just let me stock the cellar like crazy, because it's not worth it to displease those in the spirit realm...right?

It appears that Mocha Strips is gone. Sites either have it listed as not available or have deleted the item altogether. With the ten pounds I bought during a recent sale I have about two dozen pounds put up. Glad I didn't miss out on that one.

Out of curiosity, I don't suppose you could provide a link to where you found the grim news regarding Russ Ouellette's blends? I'm a touch panicked about the fate of War Horse Bar and War Horse Green myself, and I still haven't even gotten to try WhiteKnight yet! 😧
