1978, I know, I know… it’s Kenny fucking Rogers and that stupid Gambler song… but wait… listen, what if I told you that this album is full of funky bass licks, groovy psychedelic bridges, and jazz… yes, funkin’ jazz, ragtime, crazy stuff.
My dad recorded this album to 8-track, and I remember riding in the back of his Lincoln LTD with Tennessee Bottle sending me to space on our way to Disney World. Morgana Leave me alone… it’s so much more than just that stupid Gambler song.

For something different… I put this album on and cranked it up to 11 with speakers taking a sledgehammer to your rib cage, and screams that rip your cranial cavity out and scrapes your brain out and flings it against the wall. Mrs. Cosmic flees to the back room saying… “I need a pill!” “This makes me want to KILL!” Ha ha.
Grand Funk… the most underrated hard rock ever.
Rock and Roll, Baby!!!

“ You don’t know Grand Funk? The wild, shirtless lyrics of Mark Farner and the bong-rattling bass of Mel Schacher and the competent drum work of Don Brewer?

Grand Funk Railroad paved the way for Jefferson airplane, which cleared the way for Jefferson starship. The stage was now set for the Alan Parsons project, which I believe was some sort of hovercraft.

For more information on Grand Funk consult your school library.”

There is a misunderstanding. This is my Grand Funk album that I've had for decades. What did I say that Made you think that I am not familiar?
I posted E Pluribus Funk last week, and I also have the Black album and a Greatest Hits. My garage band in high school played Locomotion. While I don't have a favorite band or even genre of music... I am familiar with the albums I own. I am just posting when I spin one from time to time. Check out the pictures.

I like Grand Funk. A lot. I've seen them in concert. But they didn't pave the way for Airplane. Grand Funk Railroad formed in Michigan in '68. Jefferson Airplane came out '65 and became the true Jefferson Airplane I love in '66 with the addition of Grace Slick. They morphed into Jefferson Starship and Starship all by themselves. And they were pure California, all the way.

Nigel Olsson doesn't get mentioned often, but his drum work was such a huge contribution to Elton's classic '70s albums.

For there's weak winged young sparrows
That starve in the winter
Broken young children
On the wheels of the winners
And the sixty-eight summer festival wallflowers
Are thinning

Prima donna lord you really should have been there
Sitting like a princess perched in her electric chair

I used to know this old scarecrow
He was my song
My joy and sorrow
Cast alone between the furrows
Of a field no longer sown by anyone
I held a dandelion
That said the time had come
To leave upon the wind
Not to return
When summer burned the earth again
