I wasn’t aware that they actually used shellac. Lightly moisten a paper towel with alcohol and wipe away the rest of the shellac and then just apply wax to keep it shiny if that’s what you want. That’s what I would do, anyway.

A very light cut of shellac on a stummel helps to seal in the stain, and some makers use it. In any case waxing the rim helps to keep it from getting stained by tars as the wax will melt and wick into the surface instead of tars, which will mostly stay on the surface and can be easily wiped away.

Myriad other suggestions to follow...
Sounds like a plan, thank you.

though 1 question, fine scratches on an acrylic stem, any suggestions on how to remove them?

savinelli replied back by quotation:

”We are so sorry for your disappointment, so we asked our craftsmen, and they told us that actually this is a completely normal situation: in fact the rim is covered with shellac, and that is normal that with the heat this substance fades away. “
Yeh, so like... we asked someone in the back room covered in sawdust, and like... he said that your pipe burning it's shellac'd surface off was completely normal. Don't worry your pretty little head over it. And, these pipes were specially designed to add the flavors of burning paint and wood to your blend. This is an examples of our pipe engineers designing a very specific smoking experience for you.

You can buff them out with a wheel and abrasive, or if you don’t have a wheel, go to a woodworking store and buy some Rottenstone. Put one end of an old towel in a vice or clamp it a table and sprinkle some Rottenstone on the cloth. Then rub the stem back and forth over the cloth and the marks will disappear.

My body is aching me to “reply” to them with this, but I will resist and be a gentleman.

Shellac is organic. It comes from an insect. I don’t know what it tastes like when you smoke it, but probably not paint or wood...
lead is a totally organic thing also, but I don't want to smoke it. I work with shellac, melting it to hold metals in place while I work. It is not an awesome smell, nor would I want it in my mouth at all.
What, like you're making excuses for this company, ha ha. Sure sure, it's just like honey. It comes from insects too, ha ha.

Hell, it wouldn't be any further from what they sent you. Come on, sack up and take a swing. They're a company, not a little girl making crafts to sell at church. How much did you spend for this "smoking experience"?

Ha ha, doesn't matter either way. Whatever you send them just gets sent to the wastebasket I bet. It's cheaper to just piss off a few hundred customers with this shellac'd bullshit experiment of theirs than to replace that many pipes. They know that their fans are loyal. Besides, you should know better than to actually smoke their pipes. You're supposed to put them in a display case next to your authentic LOTR Gandalf pipe for people to gawk at.

The minute amount of shellac involved in this case wouldn’t be noticeable.

Making excuses? Hardly.

Not buying your hyperbole... Priceless

Let me tell you, if I could buy pipes that doesn’t cost around 220$ for a rusticated Savinelli where I live, I would happily send them some “friendly chatter”. Otherwise, I am doomed to be respectful & “cooperative”.

Maybe I don’t have refined taste buds.

I got the Carolina Gent and the Dark stained Freehand MM with acrylic stems. For me, and comparing them to the briar pipes a friend sent, they taste similar or at least well for me.
I don’t believe I have a refined palate either, but i do taste the corn. Do you use filters? Or clean your cob? I’ve heard people don’t even stick a pipe cleaner in their cobs...
