Yes, cigars are much easier on the palate and tongue. But there are ways around it. I find the churchwarden pipes easier to smoke because the long stem not only cools the smoke, but allows more effective probing of different areas of the tongue, cheeks and palate, where different taste bud sensors have different properties. I have a Peterson pipe, with a P-Lip, which I love but it's dynamite on the roof of the mouth if you overdo it. I'll be doing a post on this next week. I love cigars, too, as you can see from my avatar.Pipe tobacco is now really irritating the roof of my mouth, so I am getting a pipe to use filters, I plan to try meerschaum filters, I’ve been told they don't mute the flavor.
So I have not been smoking the pipes much now, been smoking cigars, which I’m really enjoying getting back into cigars.
