I dont tend to match a particular tobacco with any one drink, more just a constitutional decision of the moment.

I can only sometimes drink pop (or as some call it, soda) when smoking. It hurts my mouth, especially when I am smoking something that is prone to giving me tongue bite. Coffee, wine, and beer all work well for me. Even though beer is "bubbly" like pop, it is less so and doesn't hurt my tongue as much. If I plan on smoking more than one tobacco, I drink water to help cleanse my mouth.

It's a cultural trait that Americans and Westerners in general (of which I am one native born and life long) want

too much all at once. We want the music, the atmosphere, the cocktail, the intricate pipe blend, zee beautiful

ladies, the tropical breezes, etc. Where one or two stimuli might really work best. A really terrific bourbon can

stand all on it's own. As can a superb blend tobacco. Etc. It's tempting to layer on everything, but sequential

is probably the best, when you have the best. And please don't add a cell phone or a video game to anything!

Okay, that last was pure prejudice.

When I first started the pipe, I got tongue bit so badly that after reading that acidic drinks acerbates the bite of certain tobaccos. Now, that I am enjoying many different types of tobacco, with a proper technique, I will have an occasional soda. But, I don't have any regime of what I drink. I tend to drink more coffee during the day, but sometimes, I will grab an OJ or peach juice. However, I have found that a pulpy apricot juice with Gawith's Dark Flake is awesome.
I'm a bit of a teetotaler by choice. The pipe sets my head just fine without anything else.

I'm good either way. Sometimes a beer or hard cider goes great with a pipe, and sometimes it's tea or lemonade. I think however my favorite beverage during a smoke is a good hot cup of coffee :)

I drink Coke Zero mostly with the caramel flavor. Now people talk about carbonation, I open mine and let it sit in the frig for a couple hours so it's not a problem. I have a cup of black tea and cinnamon when it gets cold (like now), but it's cider season! I know you can get it all year round but it kind of goes with the time of the year to get the real stuff. I have a cup of Kona (pure and from Maui) now and then, but the doc says cut it out :(

I'm making my second shot at pipe smoking. I had quite a collection about 20 years ago, but got rid of them as a "healthy choice." Now, I'm 56, a bit over weight, and figure I've lived a full enough life to enjoy a fine whiskey and a good smoke at the end of a hard day.
Being from Texas, I'm quite fond of some of our local new whiskies (TX comes to mind at the top of the list). I also enjoy dark brews like Guinness, dry red wines, tequila, and brandy. Now that I'm reading what I typed, I guess I could be described as a "lush!"
I recently ordered a bag of Scotty's Butternut pipe tobacco. While I have not smoked any yet (still in transit), I am eager to pair it with something that will light my socks on fire. I enjoy a good brandy, but have yet to try an Armagnac, which I hear is much drier than a brandy or cognac.
Those of you who have smoked Scotty's Butternut.....what did you find as a good alcoholic mix?
Thanks, and it's a pleasure to be here!

I'll have to throw my hat in for a cold Coca-Cola, Mexican bottling if available because it is sweetened with cane sugar instead of HFCS.

Cheerwine has become my favorite drink with my aros. Sam Adams Octoberfest has also paired well with all of my smokes.

Hot chocolate in the AM if cool weather, else it's water. In the afternoon or evening it's water, decaf iced tea or diet caffiene free coke. For a sundowner it's Jack Single Barrel, Gentleman Jack or Wild Turkey. If I'm cleaning pipes Everclear may be involved. Happy puffin',
Dave

I find that a Darjeeling goes great with the 2013 Christmas Cheer, something is similar in flavor between the two. And Rooibos Chai Tea (with no sweetener/milk) when I want something hot and non-cafineated. I find it to pair well with Lat mixes.
