Watched the British spy…thriller Treason these last two nights. Easy viewing, well made, but man…the plot holes, big enough for even non spy aficionados to cringe. Plus the lead character is far too soft and cuddly to convince anyone he made it to be chief of MI6 at 40 years old. Plus it does one more thing which annoys me: builds what looks like a very convoluted story only to unravel it in an instant at the end.
4/5 for easy viewing
2/5 if you actually like spy stuff
Yeah, I couldn’t even finish it. It just didn’t do much for me. I gave it a good try though.

Crime Scene: The Killing Fields on NetFlix

I checked this out primarily because I lived extremely close to the "Killing Fields" and knew some of the people associated with the investigation and featured in the documentary. Having familiarity with the case I found it very accurate. I learned quite a bit about the investigation and things that have transpired in the case since moving to Ohio. Very well produced documentary. Worth a watch if you're into the true crime genre. 5/5*

Just finished Mamals on Prime. I give it a 4/5 stars, surprisingly good.

I also watched The Underground Railroad on Prime after hearing that Chris Morgan made all the pipes for the set. Not much smoking action but an amazing series. It’s slow but captivating. Highly recommend this one but it can really pull on your heartstrings and there are some horrific scenes, plays out like a horror movie at times. Very well done, great acting too. 5/5 stars and this is something I normally wouldn’t watch. Oh and keep in mind, it’s fiction.

I've never seen the original but this new series is my first go-round with All Creatures. I was thinking of going back and checking out the older one since there are something like 12 seasons.
There are actually only 7 seasons, but it spans 12+ years. There were the first three and a couple specials that bridged a few year gap until it resumed again. The second special was the last of Carol Drinkwater. Nothing wrong with the acting or story lines of seasons 4-7, all great, just seemed like something was missing with the chemistry with the new Helen and the storylines with the kids seemed awkward at times to me, but nit picking.

The books are terrific, but haven't read them for about 25 years.

We watched "Laurel Canyon" on Prime (FREE) last night. A two-part mini documentary about the residents who lived there in the 60's-70's................. think Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, Mama Cass, The Byrds, The Turtles, Zappa, The Doors, etc, etc.
I loved it, as I've always loved the music that came out of Laurel Canyon. 5/5 for me.

Just started watching a British comedy series entitled The Misfits, on HULU, about a group of young petty villains who are doing community service as a condition of parole, when they encounter a freak electrical storm that imbues them, and others, with unwanted superpowers. Foul mouthed, explicit, and hilarious. 5 out of 5

I’ve recently watched Magnum PI and Columbo. Other than a few episodes of Columbo, I hadn’t seen either when they were on network television. Falk was classic in Columbo. I was once told by someone that I reminded him of Columbo.

With Magnum, it was interesting to see his relationship with Higgins evolve over the course of the series along with some ongoing subplots. As a Navy vet myself, I was glad to see they added an extra season with his going back into the Navy.

Recently I found an “Adventures in Paradise” channel on my Roku. It has about sixty episodes in black and white. On a few the sound is poor with a loud hum, that gradually goes away. Although it is presented as James Michener’s Adventures in Paradise, he actually wrote none of the episodes. On a side note, two of Michener’s early works were Tales of the South Pacific (for which the play/movie was based) and Return to Paradise. Both were actually a collection of short stories which were great and really captured the time and place. True South Pacific literature.

The star of Adventures in Paradise was Gardner McKay. Apparently the critics were not impressed with his acting and he ultimately flat out quit acting. He was a direct descendant of the clipper ship magnate Donald McKay. I wouldn’t mind if I’d had his looks.

The shows were totally shot in Hollywood, but the locations were supposedly all over the South Pacific. Fantastic theme song. I suppose it would be a cult thing. You either like it or you don’t.

I've viewed Episodes 1-4 of The Last of Us on HBO.

The show is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi drama centered on a world which has collapsed following a fungal infection. Based on the real world cordyceps fungi, the story develops the idea of a mutation which allows the fungus to make the jump from insects to humans via the food supply, creating zombified people. The usual zombie action ensues. The 1st episode begins with the outbreak, makes a time jump, and picks up 20 years later where the main character is tasked with smuggling an immune girl across country.

There was a lot of conversation about some stuff in the third episode, but I think the show is pretty good thus far. Visuals and special effects are great. Story is good. Writing is good. I'm actually looking forward to the next couple episodes, which rarely happens for me. If you're into Sci-Fi or Post-Apocalyptic themes, then you'll probably enjoy the show. 5/5*

I've been watching the first season of Inside No. 9. Hard to give a number as it's an anthology series and some episodes are great and have to make up for lesser episodes which has no relevance to each other plots. Anyways, it's sort of in the mode of Tales From the Dark Side or The Twilight Zone but hits harder with both the humor and poignancy but perhaps does not have moral urgency that the The Twilight Zone did.

I watched one episode of The Last of Us and thought it was cliché trash.

I’m laid up with a case of sciatica, and watching stuff, Mrs. cosmic wouldn’t be interested in…

Nick Cage plays a dirty mountain man who falls in love with a pig, eats a bunch of mushrooms, and druggies beat him up and steal his pig. The rest of the movie is about getting his pig back as we learn that the mountain man was a chef wizard that gets beat up to find a pig that was already dead. Netflix, 3/5 not enough sex scenes. puffy

I can't even begin to imagine why Mrs. Cosmic wouldn't be interested in that.

I actually saw that one, and I really wanted to like it, but it was just ok...3/5 sounds about right. I think the story might have worked better as the next Beavis and Butthead movie.

It's impossible to dislike Cage...but he's been in waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy too many movies.

Good luck with the sciatica btw.

It just ended in pointlessness. Like he said, if he hadn’t of gone looking the pig would still be alive in his memories.
It was teetering on being an action movie, but then he just cooks a meal for the bad guy and goes home, WTF?
