Having seen Abel Gance's Napoleon, Scott will have some big shoes to fill.
I haven't seen that. I have seen the 1970 movie Waterloo, which I enjoyed. Waterloo didn't do well at the box office though.

From Wikipedia:
"The meagre box office results of Waterloo led to the cancellation of Stanley Kubrick's planned film biography of Napoleon."

Now that's a damn shame. A Kubrick directed Napoleon biopic could've been special.

The Pretender on Prime. Remember this show from when i was little, i remember how it all turned out but doesn't make the episodes any less fun because obviously i don't remember all of those. A wonderfully different idea for a show.

4.5 / 5

(also read that Heather Thomas was one of the biggest coke heads in hollywood in the 80s, that explains a lot)

PBS America are currently showing a four part documentary of Napoleon on channel 84 or via streaming.

Last night I watched Breaking The Mould: The Story Of Penicillin starring Dominic West & Denis Lawson.

Interesting tale about how penicillin came to be the wonder drug that it is. The story is quite different to the basic story I was taught as a kid. Yes, Fleming discovered it but dismissed it as having no practical use. It was a group of research scientists in the 1930's that did all the heavy lifting to bring it to market and save countless lives ever since.

A well earned 4/5.

Regards,

Jay.

I've been watching Justified: City Primeval. It's a limited series available on FX/Hulu based on the Elmore Leonard novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit.

I enjoyed the original Justified series and I've read several of Elmore Leonard's novels. Most of the film adaptations of his work are done well and this is no exception.

Currently halfway through the series and I'd recommend it. (5/5*)1691753320949.png

Thanks for the tip, Jay. I'll set it to record but God knows when i'll get around to watching it. I have a mountain of stuff on there that I haven't watched yet.

It's the same thing on the streaming services I subscribe to. A seemingly never ending watch list. I'm pretty sure I spend more time going through my insanely long watch lists than I do actually watching the tv shows themselves🤦🏻‍♂️.

DP_6665753_TC_1400x2100_DP_6665743_WhereTheCrawdadsSing_EST_2000x3000.jpgAbandoned as a girl, Kya raised herself in the dangerous marshlands of North Carolina. For years, rumors of the marsh girl haunted Barkley Cove, isolating the sharp and resilient Kya from her community. Drawn to two young men from town, she opens herself to a new and startling world. However, when one of them is found dead, Kya immediately becomes the main suspect. As the case unfolds, the verdict as to what happened becomes increasingly unclear, threatening to reveal many secrets

The Dirty Dozen a classic. 5/5

Trivia:
Trini Lopez was hot as a singer at the time and left the movie to keep performing, so they killed him off in the parachute jump.

Jim Brown was the Cleveland Browns all star running back, he wanted to make the movie but owner Art Modell told him he had to choose between football and being an actor, Brown at the time was the leading rusher of all time with no one even close to him so he retired at age 30. Modell would later admit he made a huge mistake making Brown choose.

Clint Walker was to be the one to impersonate the General but he thought it was demeaning to his character, a native american, so they instead used Sutherland who got a bigger role out of the movie and it also helped him land the role of Hawkeye in M*A*S*H*

The Bear on Hulu. It watches like someone who read Bourdain’s “Kitchen Confidential” but never worked in a real kitchen. Still a fun watch, though. 3.5/5

Magic & Bird: A Courtship of Rivals 5/5 (as long as you are a Celtics or Lakers fan or just a fan of those two) I actually don't watch the NBA anymore but all that Boston blood I'm an old Celtics fan.

Magic and Larry really did save the NBA, it was crumbling with garbage ratings after the ABA merger.

I'm watching it on Max but the full movie is all over online.
