I posted on another thread that Dad turned 101 last week
To mark his milestone I’m taking out a couple of pipes from his birth year 1922
He was a cigarette smoker.
I remember seeing tins (50 sticks) of Players Navy Cut and when these were no longer available, packs of Peter Stuyvesant and Benson&Hedges

First up is a GBD bent bulldog with tapered vulcanite stem

First bowl of Esoterica Tilbury.
Since Dad smoked cigarettes only, I thought a Virginia blend was appropriate

Honestly, it was my second favorite of the batch, not sure why it is going last. I do love the idea of seasonal themed artisan grade pipes.

After participating in the Seattle Pipe Club annual Slow Smoke Contest (I placed forth at 44:43), I'm taking my contest pipe, a BriarWorks sandblasted Dublin, for another spin with 2014 Christmas Cheer. This is a nice little smoker.

I’m also starting to think almost any blend is improved by perique, it’s like tobacco salt.

The 2nd of a pair of 1922s is a 1922 cased Loewe bent billiard. It was missing its sibling when I received it.
As luck would have it, I found a Loewe straight billiard amongst my pipes that fitted the slot like it was made for it

Next a bowl of Sam Gawith’s Golden Glow Broken Virginia Flakes

Just came in the mail today! The photos don’t do justice on how beautiful this pipe is - Tight 360 degree straight grain at the bowl and the shank, birds-eye at the bottom.

Blends with Perique are almost always what I grab for. I have to pick up some 100 Perique to put this to the test!!

Same! That was my favorite of the group when you first posted. Thought for sure it was a goner.

When was that made? I wonder what is different in Bakelite now vs then.

Albertson was a sub brand of Hilson. This pipe was made in the 60s or 70s. I'm not sure if the quality of materials used in Bakelite products has improved.
