Enjoyed a tasty Snap Dragon apple, and have a third of a bowl left of Sutliff Cringle Flake (Holiday Edition 2024) in a medium bend, half black sandblasted, half brown smooth, rough top 1980 Stanwell 668 dublin military mount with a multi-colored ferrule and a black vulcanite stem. Watching a Gene Autry movie.

Peretti Pride of Loch Lomond in an early 80s Butz Choquin 'Calabash' carved briar with a dunhill-esque fishtail stem. POLL became an instant favorite when i resumed the pipe a couple years ago, and was the first blend I ever purchased by the pound. Have left it aside for the better part of the last year while exploring ever so many other things... Returning tonight, it has not lost it's place as a standard-bearer of the Scottish style, and for me, a true 'desert island' candidate.

Half way through this bowl of year 2012 Stonehaven in a straight black sandblasted 1957 Barling Exel 249 Fossil T.V.F. black billiard with a silver banded military mount and a black ebonite tapered stem. Ice water and bergs is my drink. Harry the Hairy wanted in, but he got bored and wanted out.

OJK in a Peterson SPD 2011 69. I have always had a problem with gurgling pipes. I decided to plan my smokes a dry the tobacco about two before loading the bowl and it worked great.
Last night I took my OJK and Haunted bookshop and spread it out on paper towels and left uncovered over night and is now crispy and no gurgling and seems to taste somewhat better.

Same as I started in the morning. A bowl of Bridge old brown flake in an LHS Certified Purex bullmoose made sometime between the end of WW2 and Elvis I presume.

Happy Veterans day! My pops retired from the USCG about seven years ago, did 15 year in the Navy and 20 years in the USCG. Wife and I are buying a house and once that life event is over I plan to join the CG reserve.

Part of the Furniture Now
Another changeup for the evening smoke. Went to small pipes and my usual morning/afternoon smokes rather than what I'd planned with the meer. So my day was exactly the opposite as usual. Quite enjoyed the change.

Yeah, I know I scorch my pipes - always have. I have only one eye (lost my right eye in a series of 3 strokes about 14 years ago. No depth perception and miss the bowl with regulartity.) I should really stick to rusticated finishes like my J07 but . . . . I love briar. That's why all my expensive pipes are rough finished. So let's move on. cray I can live with it.

The J16 on the left is dedicated totally to Mad Fiddler. Smoked it first. Got right through Beethoven 8 as expected, with 5 minutes to spare. Fantastic smoke. Then smoked my J05 and ended the evening with a great smoke for this pipe, as expected, which only gets fed Black Frigate. Tried to get through Vivaldi's 4 Seasons, which lasts 42 minutes in the terrific Simon Standage recording. Not quite. The pipe was finished at 35 minutes. Both were double packed loosely, which is now my norm for taste. But the small bowled J05 would have easily got me through Beethoven 8 which I just didn't want to hear again this day. The pipe loves BF and I had a wonderful smoke. This is frankly, to me at least, stellar performance for both pipes. Less is more.

I'm still working on my technique for tall bowls, which the J05 is, in spite of its miniscule nature. Getting better, but still have a ways to go. But I'll get there. I'll start the day (don't count on it lol) with another try. But frankly, I'm enjoying the changeup and not feeling quite so anal about my scheduling as I did before. As the Spirit leads, eh?

These little Ropps, and the McQueen miniatures, are gamesavers for my favorite tobaccos, which unfortunately are not available in Canada for less than eighty bucks plus tax, if they are available at all. And I've whined enough about that so even I'm sick of it. I can hang on without replenishing these treasures with the amount I've got now until April. Might not even make that date myself. So I'll shut up now already. On to tomorrow and whatever it brings!

Near the last third of this bowl of year 2013 Capstan Blue Ready Rubbed in a straight smooth brown 1933-1945 Comoy’s patent Grand Slam 127 billiard with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Abner the Eager wanted out, and when he went, Harry the Hairy came back in to eat. I'd rather feed them inside than to let their food taken from them by possums.
