Looks like I'm on a roll. Just smoked my Ropp J05, which is dedicated totally to Orientals, and again broke my pattern. Don't usually smoke this genre in the afternoons. BUT, again like this morning, broke the pattern, and did a loose 2 pack of Steamworks, figuring I'd get 30 minutes max. Listened to Beethoven Symphony #8, which I have a special fondness for, because it was the first Beethoven symphony I conducted in public from memory. Orchestra was in no panic because I'd rehearsed without the score and they were used to it. None of us like surprises in the profession.

So, what did I learn from the smoke? Plenty. The symphony lasts about 28 minutes in performance. Not only did I get through it but I listened to the last movement twice. So a loose 2 pack in this wonderful pipe gives a great smoke which will get me listening through any classical symphony ever written that I'm aware of (pre-Haydn, Haydn, Mozart) with plenty of time to spare. ) Pipe dedication is a real boon to good smokes. And, Steamworks is one of the most varied, and incredible tobaccos I've ever had the pleasure of smoking. Good things come in 3's.

Can hardly wait till evening when I'll be trying Steamworks in my completely broken in Meer. I've already smoked Sunday Picnic with incredible variety in taste and quality in the meer. Downside is I only have 1 1/2 cans of Steamworks so it'll have to be a rare treat. Thankful for the results in the much smaller (but equally adept) Ropp. And also thankful for the great listening Renaissance! Enjoying it thoroughly. No Berlioz though . . . . . . I do have some biases!

I was planning a nice, leisurely afternoon with a cigar, but the snow, 40-50 mph winds, and household chores laid waste to those plans. My consolation prize is a nice Falcon of Father Dempsey (overlooking the driveway my neighbor and I resurfaced on Saturday).

Unfortunately, the breeze is burning it to ash in record time: I’m going to need to move to my smoking tent and reload
Great looking property. Deer and cottontails with a bow and arrow, perhaps lol! Great looking Falcon, too!

We have 2 deer stands that came with the property, which is a shame because I don’t hunt! But we’ve seen a lot more bear than deer this year, anyway. My neighbor has seen several, though, so I hope his luck holds in a few weeks!

I love my Falcons. Maybe a bit too much: those are all I used from July to October. But now I’m appreciating my briars more than I did before, so maybe the break was a good thing.

Here’s my newest bowl, a Dublin: the perfect size for my followup bowl of Dempsey this evening.

It doesn’t seem as flavorful as last night’s in the briar: probably due to the filter rings. I’ll have to verify that experimentally, of course.

Steamworks was one of the best tins I've had in a few years. Glad to have about 1/2 dozen more or so...

I left some Sutliff 507-C Navy Flake in my drying box for a week and it is very, very dry but not yet crispy. I tried it today and now know why you gentleman say to dry the tobacco. I was able to discern all of the subtle flavors. But it was a dry and somewhat hotter and more acrid smoke even with slow sipping and made my mouth water and made me thirsty. Now I also know why everyone has something to drink while smoking. It was very good but I think I prefer it just a tad moister. The pipe was my Vauen Olaf 4873 bent egg with 9mm filter.

At least the pipe and smoke was good. Desert hunting is indeed tough. We have some country that looks a bit like that around Cache Creek. Long shots, usually. Tough packing, too as you noted. Hope you have another trip this year. We open on the 15th for two points in Central BC, and a 4 day trophy season for big bucks I think on Dec 1 - won't be going this year. Knees won't take the kind of walking any more. You ain't old enough yet to know lol. My next deer hunt'll be from the front porch of a farmer friend who baits them with hay stacks in his fields. THAT"S getting old! Thanks for posting these shots. I enjoyed them! - a bit of a nostalic doppelganger there, too - did some antelope hunting in Wyoming many years ago. Loved that terrain. Looks similar! Salut!
I’ll go back to that unit, but it’ll be different area. If/when I do, it’ll be with a bear tag-my buddy’s dad has a picture of five adult bear in one frame. That in itself is very cool, but the amazing part is there’s four color phases represented in five bear in one picture😉
He wouldn’t let me take a pic of the pic, as the skyline is visible and wants no one to interpolate where it was taken…
