I smoked cigarettes for a long while until I was 30. Got off them temporarily at university by taking up a pipe (which was a fad spawned by the movie "National Lampoon's Animal House". I went back to cigarettes until I beat the addictive qualities of the genre by using chewing tobacoo, which I did NOT find addictive. Nor do I find pipes addictive.. You can make an effective chew by using 2 parts high burley codger tobacco and 2 parts very sweet aromatic, like C&Ds Autumn Evening. Works. I use this homemade concoction when I teach music students. They never know lol. Give it a try!

Hmmm, I use snus packages recently and they help as they deliver a big nicotine hit. I'd read that chewing tobacco and dip can be just as hard to quit as cigarettes, though. Anyway the main point was that my palate has cleaned up some so I enjoy pipe tobacco even more nowadays!
