Went off diet to snack, and am a quarter of the way through this bowl of Peretti Royal in a black sandblasted medium bend 2013 Mark Tinsky Coral 5 cherrywood with a smooth dark brown shank and bottom with a tapered black briar accented acrylic stem. Tomato the Brave was waiting for me when I looked out the window, and he's eating now.

Tonight I'm trying out Tabac De La Semois Reserve du Patron for the first time, in my trusty Morgan Bones Milan. puffy

At first I was a little concerned when the tobacco arrived dry to the point of being crispy, but it still holds it's shape nicely without crumbling apart when squeezed between the fingers so I'm guessing it's supposed to be that way!

It's got that distinctive soft nutty flavor like the Five Brothers I've been enjoying so much lately, but way smoother and the nutty Burley flavor is accompanied by something almost incense'y that reminds me of Oriental tobacco, and an occasional note that tastes like... rocks? Or a salt lick without the saltiness? It's hard to describe but it's a very mineral'y stone sort of flavor that I've never tasted in any other tobacco before, but I think I like it! The way it sizzles and crackles when burning is slightly disconcerting though. 😅

The nicotine content is a fair bit stronger than I was expecting too, and is making me think I really shouldn't have had a cigarette shortly before smoking this. It certainly is satisfying, I'll say that much!

That minerally rock like taste turns up for me sometimes in capstan blue… almost like the aftertaste of mineral water, with an accompanying carbonated effect too. Very unique and enjoyable.

Finished the pipe of Semois' Reserve du Patron, and now I'm trying out another Semois blend Le Petit Robin for the first time; in a Falcon twister.

This is good! Very good! It's got the same nutty mineral Semois Burley notes as Reserve du Patron, but with the addition of some mystery tobaccos that based on their flavor I'm guessing are some bright Virginias and dark fired Virginias. There's a definite smokiness in this blend that reminds me a lot of Gawith's dark fired Virginias. It could be dark fired Kentucky, but I'm pretty sure it's dark fired Virginia.

Le Petit Robin comes in an extra fine shag cut and the different tobacco varietals seem to form their own little clumps in the mix, so you'll get some patches in the bowl with more Semois, some with more bright Virginia, and some with more dark fired leaf. There's a good bit of variety in flavors going on here and I think this will be a fun one to sit back and spend time tasting and figuring out. puffy
