For me Veermaster, “Peterson” Flake and Orlik Golden Sliced all fall in the same category- bright VAs that don’t appeal to me. Not sweet, very much grassy/hay flavors, thin bodied, easy to heat up.
Patriot Flake and Sutliff CK Red VA are entirely different animals. Patriot leans red and dark VAs, probably from Africa. Fuller bodied, sweet in a natural way, and gives the impression that a small amount of oriental tobaccos are present (no idea if they are or aren’t). Sutliff Red VA is smooth, sweet, and rich but vinegar is definitely part of the processing. Some don’t like the vinegar part, but I do.
Now smoking Wilke No. 72 in a pre-1974 dark brown straight Larus & Brother Co. Signature billiard with a nickel band and a tapered black vulcanite stem with the initials LCR on the top of the stem. This blend was smoked by Walter Cronkite.

Spent the entire day smoking Captain Black Original.
I’ve only smoked one bowl, half of it on the ride home from work and the sweetness really stood out. In a good way. The other half I smoked at home with a beer and it masked the flavor of the second half. JimInks eat your heart out.Very curious! since I’ve loved this series and I’m a VaPer dude, I blind ordered ten tins!

I'm a bit late here, but in the interest of full disclosure, Mac Baren Golden Extra in my gifted (thanks @TheIronMonkey !) Foyard beechwood Rhodesian. Other than some assorted sparrows and crows, very little bird activity today, due to the incoming storm (again). This winter has been absolutely off the hook.

Just finished smoking Wilke 10 Downing Street in an undated straight, smooth flame grain Wessex Standard billiard with a brown accent on the tapered black vulcanite stem. Ice water and bergs is my drink.
Now smoking D&R Penhooker Silver in a straight smooth brown undated pre-Republic Peterson Shamrock 263 Canadian with a nickel band and a tapered black p-lip stem.
Very Good Straight Virginia. I love love love:
