I’be been putting off breaking in a few pipes for a while now so I’m having sour bowl of Choc Flake, and then another, and then..... you know the routine. The pipes are all estate, lightly used and the same brand based on a recommendation from someone. I’ll reveal my findings to the Ancient Fellowship of Pipe Smokers (you guys) when I have them.

I've had the worst luck with that particular model of pipe. The first one that I bought in Cork, developed ulcers. The second one started to get some scorched wood on the inside, but eventually developed a nice layer of carbon over it. I also had to add some pipe mud to the bottom because the draft hole was way too high. It smokes fine now, but too many years of frustration to get it right. I am hesitant to smoke it now and that makes me disappointed as I have fond memories of Cork.

Lovely 65 degree evening here in Maryland out on the deck smoking 2005 era Gawith Hoggarth Dark Plug in a Bertram 120. This blend was given to me as part of a “bombing mission” 2 yrs ago for my 38th bday. With my 40th approaching, felt it was time to break this jar open again. This stuff is so damn good I only smoke a few bowls every year. Even the aroma is intoxicating!
