Nice day for working outside, and trying out Boswell’s Northwoods in my Baraccini Mare Blu 673: first time with the tobacco, second with this pipe. I think I’ll be ordering more Northwoods: it was pleasant and tasted good all the way to the bottom.

Ive got a bunch of older pipes with "bald" grain. Many are from makers people still love and search for....Dr Grabow, Medico, Kaywoodie, Yorkshire.....
I have never noticed a difference in smoking quality or heat.
Most of the sandblasted or rusticated pipes made all through history were made from ugly briar.

Half way through this bowl of 1970s Heine's Blend in the second pipe I ever bought, a 1974 three quarter bend black sandblasted Dr. Grabow Omega military mount with a nickel band and a black vulcanite p-lip stem.

Now smoking Watch City American Cut Plug Mixture in the third pipe I bought ($1.95), a 1974 smooth straight dark brown French briar Hadley NEBPC apple with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

A third of the way through this bowl of Sutliff Maple Shadows in a 1975 medium bend sandblasted looking, smooth on the sides yellow Pioneer meer billiard with a black ferrule and vulcanite stem in the military mount style. This is the fourth pipe that I bought. Paid $5.95 for it.
