Enjoyed a tasty Jazz apple, and am almost half way through this bowl of D&R Windsail in a smooth straight dark brown family era “Canadian” by Sasieni with a black tapered vulcanite stem. I just love this pipe! Working and listening to the Padres-Mets game. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

No, it's a bit broken on the stem end and there's a slight chip on the bowl but honestly what's really stopped me is figuring out what kind of tobacco to put in a pipe of that age. If you (or anyone else) has any suggestions I may give it a go one of these days. I just feel it would need to be a special tobacco for this one, and certainly a blend that tastes great in clay.
@Zepfan84 I recommend Gawith flake in a clay or they would have smoked twist back then.
My favourite pipe tobacco is Gawith Hoggarth cherry vanilla; I had a memorable smoke of it when I went to see Lace Wars at Cromford Mill in 2019 pre Covid19.
It went down well in my clay pipe!

It's not a great blend and I don't think a Cavalier would have enjoyed it any more than I do today.

The fact that King Charles II was not a fan of tobacco there's definitely an irony to his mug being on the tin and what grandpa King James I wrote in his "Counterblaste to Tobacco" is well known
‘A custome loathsome to the eye, hatefull to the nose, harmefull to the braine, dangerous to the lungs, and in the blacke stinking fume thereof, neerest resembling the horrible Stigian smoake of the pit that is bottomlesse.’ etc.

Yes, all the Tanga Amboseli meers (and not just that brand) from the '70s that I've seen have that pre-smoked look:-

Doesn't go into the pre-smoked look but offers other info on your African meer pipes and the company that made them:-

Snap (or close), young man, except my example is from the late '70s:-

He could always do something similar to what a previous owner did to this early 17th cent portion - mount it with a silver or gold coloured band, add attractive stem and hey presto a thoroughly smokable pipe is reborn:-

@virkia You have a great collection of clay pipes!
I already knew that King Charles and King James both hated tobacco smoking (which would have been in a clay pipe back then).
I like the Counterblaste to Tobacco reference, I feel that smoking divided opinion even then!
I read somewhere that when King Charles I was executed, Parliamentarians knowing he hated tobacco blew pipe smoke in his face!
When the workplace smoking ban came in in 2007 I imagined a large group of English Civil War re-enactors going to the pub in costume, drinking ale and smoking a full tin / packet of pipe tobacco between them; they'd probably have smoked the pub out and I can almost smell all that pipe smoke!
One of the Lace Wars re-enactors was smoking Clan in his clay pipe; I thought it suited his character.
You once replied to my post saying that I would it would take me a long time to choose a clay pipe to break in, or just break!
I feel that if I was in the Sealed Knot I might have problems with controlling my clay pipe smoking and tobacco intake, probably be likely to demolish a full packet of pipe weed over a weekend!
They have a "No smoking on the battlefield" rule due to the explosion risk!
Smoking a clay pipe around the fire would be good fun though and solve the problem getting it lit!
Most likely to be Gawith Hoggarth in my clay pipe at re-enactments!

I managed to make that small bowl of Irish Flake last over 45 minutes! Enjoyed it with a Parallel 49 - Hillbilly Ninja Pale Ale. I've just poured myself a chaser of Forty Creek - Double Barrel Reserve whisky. I am feeling spoiled, tonight.

Last smoke of the day is the first bowl from a newly opened bag of year 2013 Stonehaven in a straight black sandblasted pre-transition Barling Exel 249 Fossil T.V.F. black billiard with a silver banded military mount and a black ebonite tapered stem. Deep, rich, wonderful smell and taste with some sugar crystals to boot! Also, my very favorite pipe which has only seen Stonehaven the past eight years.
