Another Basket pipe coming back in use. I have many old basket pipes that were bought between 20 and 30 years and smoked only once or twice. Quite a while back I cleaned them all and sanded the bowls down to wood. This time I coated the bowl with honey. The pipe in the previous post was not coated and didn't taste very good. This pipe is a Venini with OJK. Venini.jpg

Scott, when I used to find yellow jacket nests in the ground, I would wait until almost dark (so they all go back into nest) and pour some gasoline in the hole. That should do it.

My usual 507-C this morning. We have a second brood of wrens in the bird box on the garage., The parents were feeding the babies roughly every three to four minutes for nine hours a day for about two weeks. Today they sitting nearby making low ratchet like sounds and only feeding every half hour or so. I think they are coaxing the young out of the nest. The catbirds seem to be on standby possibly to assist during flight training. Very interesting while smoking a pipe but there is a poor air quality warning today and an excessive heat warning so I may miss the first leap.

Yesterday's Smoke: Took a couple of days off with just chew; too many break ins. Broke the pipe fast with my Muxiang 102HT, with a triple parfait of SWR on top, Capt Black Dark in the middle, and Borkum Riff Dark Cavendish as the base. Had a very good smoke indeed at my picnic table with some friends. A nice day for a change. Skippable Drivel of limited interest below re the pipe itself.

Skippable Drivel: I've had a few of these pipes. Ended up giving them away to interested friends, and replacing them because I like the pipe, it's cheap, and it's a very good smoker and a great beginners pipe.

The pipe is made of ebony as advertised, (confirmed by a professional clarinettist - wood winds like clarinets and oboes are made of ebony), and I've seen and held enough of them to agree; distinctive grain pattern and a bit heavier than you'd expect for the size of the pipe. Smokes similar to briar and is just as tough in my experience. Doesn't need to be coddled as much during the break in process like ash or pearwood. Good general and kickaround outdoor all purpose pipe.

I followed buddy Mike's lead (he has one, too) and call it "Uncle Henry" after the pipe smoking neighbor of Dennis the Menace cartoon fame.

Near the last third of this bowl of year 2024 Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem in the military mount style. Fed all the cats, and did a little kitchen cleaning. Ice water and bergs is my drink.
