We had an issue last year at the family cottage. There were ground nesting yellowjackets under the parking area. One day I pulled in, turned the truck off, found my hat, etc., and had the door just cracked open to get out when I looked up and saw a massive swarm in front of the truck and by the wheels. I closed the door, backed out of there and parked on the street. Nothing followed me, and I walked by the area (about 25 yards off to the side), there wasn’t much activity. That was fairly late in the summer, and as long as we avoided the exact 2 or 3 square feet over the nest, we had no problems. After the first couple of frosts we gave the nest about half a gallon of gasoline (yes, I capped and moved the gas can across the property; been there, done that before

) and fired it up. After it burned for a while, we dug it up and smashed the rest of combs.
