I have a jar of left over tobacco that doesn't make it into the pipe, that I began when I first began smoking a pipe. It is an ever changing Aromatic English/Balkan Mixture... thingy... labeled as Puff'n Stuff. I'm currently having a wonderful smoke of it while watching The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim.

Once I cleared this:

1.27.25 morning snow 4.jpg

...I was all too happy to enjoy a Brobdingnagian bowl of Mac Baren Plumcake in a Barling sandblasted egg. And just as happy to remind myself that I have a pound and two tins worth (one of them w/Syrian lat, thank heaven!) squirreled away. 9/10

Bird report: California towhee, Dark-eyed junco, White-crowned sparrow, Chipping sparrow, Golden-crowned sparrow, California scrub-jay, Steller's jay, American crow, American robin, Mountain chickadee, Northern flicker, and White-breasted nuthatch. Lots of good bird food in the trees knocked to the ground by this 14 inch snowfall.

Stay warm everyone!

Burley just doesn't agree with my mouth chemistry and always leaves me with a sore throat for a couple days after smoking.. . . .

However, I recently discovered that if I smoke a Burley blend in a pipe with a paper filter then they don't bother my throat at all!
Yeah, I think we all experience foibles like this . . . . I have some trouble with tongue bite and lip sensitivity with certain tobacco components . . . . for me, particularly perique, which I'm particularly fond of. As perique, I understand, is a process, like cavendish, and not necessarily a particular tobacco, I've found a couple of perique blends that aren't so bad, like Mad Fiddler, and others that are not so good. I know that some others are bothered by Virginias. And so on it goes. We have to experiment to find out what we can and can't do so we can enjoy our pipes more. Good post!

Afternoon smoke, with the expected excellence of the tobacco, and a pipe (Ropp J05) uniquely suited and matched to Black Frigate. Quirky pipe - very tall bowl proportionate to a very small diameter, but thanks to a loose 2 pack technique (a tip of the hat to Cap) and advice on slow smoking techniques (another tip of the hat to Dr. Cosmic) I've gotten the upper hand and getting sterling results! Moral of the story, "we shall overcome."

Don't know about posting the next few days. Computer goes in for a new Linux distro and overhaul tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest, and my backup is at least an equal in quirkiness to the J05. Like handling a 5x7 large format field camera. 😂 That's what you get for being attached to old technology and addicted to problem solving.

A delightful surprise hit the post today and once again the forum provides. To the two gentlemen involved much thanks to you (PM’s incoming) and now I shall fill a small Castello with some delicious tobacco.View attachment 366518View attachment 366519
I'm not picking on you today! Really! But I just picked up something that looks like that tobacco off the floor, courtesy of my old dog. Sorry for the "twisted" comment!

Had a bowl of C&D Autumn Evening in a cob while running some errands this afternoon.

My after dinner smoke was Samuel Gawith Brown No. 4 Twist in this Danish made pipe (I think it was made by Stanwell). It's a good smoker.
