Having Ken Byron Ventures B. Frog’s Sabotage in a Savinelli La Milano 4002 Cutty (without a spur). This pipe has a miniature Corallo di Mare/Capri rustication finish, one of the earliest versions on a Savinelli pipe that I’ve encountered. The La Milano line is circa 1949–1950 and is a precursor to the more ubiquitous de luxe Milano, and even has the same brass bar on the stem. However, it bears the Biscione Serpent stamp (in addition to the Savinelli shield) that can be seen on the stems of Savinelli Estella Hand Made pipes. This symbol of a snake giving birth to a child is a historic symbol of the city of Milan (you may recall having seen it on the Alfa Romeo car logo).

We had a nice time at my niece’s unconventional wedding on Friday.

Here I am with the three brothers that attended (Tim, the brother I play table tennis with, and father of the bride on the left).

A test to see how many relatives can fit into a photo booth at once (bride’s brother on the right).

Hey Snook..Their old design is cool, and they smoke ok, the draw might be a little tight for some because of the diameter of the stem. I use a wire sometimes to clean it. They look really cool but like I said for those that like a big open draw they might not be for everyone.
I kind of had a feeling that would be an issue. Well, I guess I would get one more for the novelty of the design rather than every day smoke-ability, so the draw wouldn't be too bothersome. Thanks Backwoods!

After Mass yesterday morning, got to Mike's with another friend and partook in Superbowl preliminaries. Only other game besides hockey I ever followed. Will be easy to root for Philadelphia - was always a Flyer's fan, and I like the looks of that team - best running team I've seen in years, and that draw play in the 4th quarter? Haven't seen one of those in years! Don't like the Chiefs. Hated Wizard of Oz as a boy so have trouble rooting for anything with KC attached to it. Sorry. But they're a fine team . . .and it was good to see football again on a big screen tv rather than highlights on a computer screen.

Took my travel kit along for the ride - all fits into a medium size leather pencil case. Film can contains 2 pipefuls of TobaccoBarns' "Traditional English" for the Falcon, and a plasitc baggie (not shown, was too lazy to go back to the kitchen to get it) of Smoker's Pride Whiskey Tobacco for my best cheap pipe, a Muxiang I've dubbed "Uncle Henry" after the Dennis the Menace cartoon neighbour. Both were great smokes. A Swisher's Grape and a few home rollies completed the outfit, so didn't run short of smoke for the football fires.

Smoked some Haunted Bookshop this morning and now I'm having Carter Hall, both in a Country Gentleman cob.puffy

Flavor wise my favorite blends have always been Burley based ones. Carter Hall, Pegasus, and Haunted Bookshop in particular. Unfortunately though I haven't been able to smoke them too often since for some reason Burley just doesn't agree with my mouth chemistry and always leaves me with a sore throat for a couple days after smoking.

However, I recently discovered that if I smoke a Burley blend in a pipe with a paper filter then they don't bother my throat at all! The intensity of flavor is reduced a bit and it does make the draw a little tighter, but it's been absolutely 100% worth it to be able to smoke my favorite Burley blends without getting a sore throat, and I'm just ecstatic to be smoking Haunted Bookshop, Pegasus, and Carter Hall again! 😁

Enjoyed a tasty lunch, and am half way through the last of this tin of year 2000 VaPer Three Nuns in a 2003 smooth full bend, gold banded 3 Star Ferndown Tudor Root with a black acrylic tapered stem. The last of this bag of Gold Star Nightwish, neat, is my drink. Getting ready to clean a few pipes.

Looks like a nice venue!

It’s a raw loft space that gets rented out for a variety of events. The gritty, exposed brick look has been very popular in New York for the last twenty or thirty years. When Susan and I looked at various parts around the place, we approached it like homeowners, and wondered if the water damage on the beams had compromised structural integrity, and if the peeling paint was giving everyone lead poisoning.
