I’ve shied away from straight Va’s because I never liked it as a rolling tobacco, preferring Dutch blends particularly Samson. The third tobacco in today’s batch is Charatan Three Year Matured Va and I see that the pipe experience is altogether different. I think this is gonna be a great first smoke of the day. The restless rain has finally relented, so I'm going to walk in a few minutes, and when I do, I'll be smoking D&R Penhooker Silver in an undated straight brush etched black Molina apple with a nickel band and a black tapered vulcanite stem.

I thought I'd revisit C&D Carolina Red Flake after discussing my review of it recently with friends. Aging for two years had certainly taken off the harsh edge considerably and allowed a subdued sweetness to come to the fore. I feel compelled to update my review with a more favorable sentiment. Enjoying it in a Ben Wade Chippendale.

Nice! I found C@D blends to be a bit harsh in the past. I’ve revised my opinion. A little time in the cellar smooths out the rough edges on many of their offerings. I’ve come to appreciate the quality of their leaf with minimal additives. I particularly like their Virginia’s and their perique. Derringer and Bayou Morning and Three Friars.
