Has anyone ever seen this formation on any blend other than flakes or plugs? I’m thinking it might be the gum arabic that is added to glue everything together.

I just began watching a movie called LEE. From IMDB, "The story of photographer Elizabeth `Lee' Miller, a fashion model who became an acclaimed war correspondent for Vogue magazine during World War II." I was in the mood for a WWII movie, but also for something a little different. This popped up on my Prime feed, and I decided why the heck not. About 20 minutes in and it's already something different. But I think it might be an interesting one. I'm pairing the movie up with some Cornell & Diehl Founding Fathers in a Stanwell Authentic 139, another unfinished pipe which is coloring nicely and has some pretty nice grain. Coffee for drink, but might move onto a hard cider.
