Hoosier quoted a respiratory therapist as saying humans have no immune response to this virus, but then why do most folks get only mild symptoms and recover fully ? This doesn't seem logical to me. Could somebody shed some light on this ?
Off the top of my head... When your body fights off a specific bug, it takes time to make antibodies. Some of the cells which will fight off that bug remain with you always, giving at least some immunity. The reason you don't get an immunity to the flu and colds is that they mutate so fast. Your immunity to last year's bug gives you some immunity and at least a leg up on this year's bug. I'm thinking that this one is so different that we have no immune response whatsoever. Your body will still develop antibodies, it will just take longer starting from scratch and give the virus a chance to really settle in and infect.

If there was no immune response and you couldn't develop one, the very sick would not recover.

I don't think people have any idea how many infected people there are. I believe once everyone gets tested. I think the numbers will shock the government. Our economy is going to take years to get back to some kind of normal. Our medical situation is so far behind the curve that tons of people are going to die who didn't need to.

The entire world's economies are going to turn to shit and people are going to look to us for help and there will be none coming.
I am 62 and have seen some nasty shit over the years but this makes them all pale in comparison. People who are not qua ranting themselves are being stupid and putting the rest of us at risk.

When I saw the crowds at Clear Water beach the other day I knew we have a generation of stupid fucks who are going to spread this even worse.. I worry about what kind of world will be left as I have 4 kids ranging in ages of 17-30.

None of the world is ready for what is coming and if you are not thinking this is the worst thing you have ever seen, take your heads out of the sand.

Don't worry; it's been circulating since November or even earlier; Tradespeople have been coming back and forth from China for many months. Everyone is going to be fine. This is a mass panic. Only elderly and sick are prone and even so it's not that bad. CoronaVirus is listed on disinfectant bottles like C Diff Mers Sars Influenza. You were at risk for that as well; don't let it stress you out. We are all being herded like cattle and our freedoms are being compromised; That's a bigger deal. They cannot keep up locked up like this for long periods of time so I'm banking that this will all be over soon.

I think some caution is merited. I have friends in Switzerland and Italy where this is really giving their small countries a lot of pain on top of their usual health Issues. Yesterday in Italy there were 6557 new cases and 793 new deaths. If this is spin, it will come out over time. If it isn’t, then we need to be looking at places like New York and asking ourselves if there are good reasons why we will fare better.

Italy Coronavirus: 53,578 Cases and 4,825 Deaths - Worldometer - https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/italy/

Yes; but it may very well be spin. But Yes definitely.

Coronavirus has been around for over 50 yrs this is just a new strand just like the flu mutates so does this stuff

I have been reading a bit that is being published on the genetic sequencing on this. Time will tell and this is not my field of study, but theory that the origins of thus comes from two strains in animals is very interesting.

It will be interesting to see if a test for antibodies comes around. My suspicion is that many people have had this, particular virus and don't know it. I suspect that it has been with us in the U.S. for many months. I, personally, know several people who've developed the symptoms way back in January -- before there was any formal concern in U.S. about the virus. It is stunning how much we don't know!

I essentially agree with everything you said except perhaps the last sentence.

But regardless of whatever one chooses to believe about "Covid19" one thing is certain...if the general "shutdown" that is taking place now does not ease up substantially very very soon, the economic devastation will be the end of the world as we know it.

For those who believe this shutdown is necessary and justified (I do not) I trust you at least have some understanding of the ramifications. Even though I disagree with Harris regarding the virus itself, I couldn't agree more with the statement he made in another thread:

If we don't get a handle on this soon our economy will completely crash.
I am 62 and have seen some serious economic shit storms but this dwarfs aii the others combined. We are headed for a depression like the world has never seen before.

Literally MILLIONS of people in the U.S. alone have already lost their jobs and/or businesses either temporarily or permanently because of this "shutdown" and it's barely getting started. The vast majority of Americans have little to no savings or self sufficiency of any kind. There are already huge lines waiting to get into stores everywhere and the inventories are massively depleted. Many necessary items cannot even be found online right now.

IMO it cannot be overstated how serious the implications and domino effect of the economic fallout from this could be.

Hope for the best...and I would say prepare for the worst, but the window for preparing has mostly past now.

I Agree and I am personally in the belief (tin foil hat club) that the elite/1% are indeed exploiting the situation in order to eliminate middle class wealth. I think they would prefer a Stock Exchange Corporation based economy where government and politicians own stake and are controlled by the 'powers that be'. They will flatten out anyone considered middle class to poverty level to which those will be destined to a life of servitude in Amazon, Walmart, Target factories. Limited travel, public transportation FORCED SOCIALISM OUT OF DESPERATION and reintierism. People will lose homes. An excellent German Economist wrote a book about this in 2017 with less emphasis on the outcome only how this actually can be predicted in Rise and Falls of economies. Smart people know this and milk the situation! Book Review | The Invisible Hand? How Market Economies Have Emerged, by Bas Van Bavel - https://www.independent.org/publications/tir/article.asp?id=1354

1. Social media is full of hype, bullshit and hysteria.
2. Politicians are generally spineless opportunists.
3. Without taking certain (economically painful) measures, this virus could kill hundreds of thousands of Americans.

All 3 of these things can be true.

There was a report yesterday of a 39-yr-old, no existing compromises, who started to feel sick in FL the night before. She was dead by end of the next day. Let's not be *too* cavalier about it. The medicos know whereof they speak.

Well, when everybody's dead and gone after the coronalypse, at least the buzzards will be happy.

I can see 'em now, flying overhead and yakking to each other, "You know, them humans don't taste very well but, they've got the cleanest assholes of any creature on earth!"

Yep. Like it or not, this is a numbers game. The economy is going to take a hit. It was already headed that way without the pandemic. Two bond curve inversions in the past two years pointed to a vote of no confidence by investors on long term prospects.
The shutdown is numbers driven. How much economic pain versus how many fatalities. Everyone has an opinion on this, and we all know what opinions, including mine, are like.

My version would be this:

1. The "mainstream" corporate media cartel and social media are full of hype, bullshit and hysteria.
2. Politicians are generally spineless opportunists...who are only front men and women for those higher up the food-chain who own them.
3. We are being told that without taking certain (economically devastating) measures (that will likely ruin and/or kill hundreds of thousands of Americans), this virus might kill hundreds of thousands of Americans.

True that. Based on being in the medical field for 40+ yrs so far & knowing when, & when not, to believe things, I'll trust in objectivity & the knowledge that failing safe does have "safe" as the operative word. :)
