I've always wanted a VW camper van. It's been a while since I've seen one on the road. I've owned two VW Beetles in the past, both project cars. They were fun to drive, but I got bored with them and sold them.

Here's a Matchbox Volkswagen Concept 1 that I had sitting in a drawer...my grandsons play with it now with the other Matchbox and Hot Wheels.

There’s a guy down the road from me who collects toy cars done so for years, got a room dedicated to them all displayed in units , got hundreds of them lovely to look at , but won’t anyone touch though not even his kids or wife.
There's a guy down the road from me that has a model train set that runs throughout the house. He also doesn't let anyone mess with his trains. Keeps saying, "THIS IS NOT A TOY!" H aha.

I don't understand the fascination with train sets, but man o man, this thread makes me want my cars back so bad. I would love to build little cases to display them and such.

I've noticed an obvious difference in quality between some of the older toy cars and at some point in the 70's it seems like they improved. The older ones had wobbly wheels, felt lighter in hand, and seemed to have less detail on the inside of them. Does anyone know when that year they changed them was? Was it in the 60's or 70's?
The cars in this bin are generally from Corgi, which are the larger more detailed ones, and Lesney, a British brand. There is a big spectrum of detail and quality across the board although they are almost all metal.

As a child growing up in Chicago in the 60's our family had one car which was usually with my dad at work. On occasion my mom would take us kids downtown on the bus similar to this bus in the pic.

I've always enjoyed riding on the bus and I still do. When my wife and I were in Paris in 2018, I insisted on taking the bus to the Eiffel Tower. Being the awesome wife that she is, she went along for the ride with no complaints.

Today, this tinplate toy bus made by KOVAP in the Czech Republic arrived on my doorstep.

Wiki: The Deutsche Bundesbahn or DB (German Federal Railway) was formed as the state railway of the newly established Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) on 7 September 1949 as a successor of the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (DRG). The DB remained the state railway of West Germany until after German reunification, when it was merged with the former East German Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) to form Deutsche Bahn AG, which came into existence on 1 January 1994.

Nice pickup Scott, it is definitely in the 'style' of these older toys.

Love that Citroen wagon! (and the D-Type)
One of my favorites as well, although I am predisposed to favoring wagons.

obvious difference in quality
Here is another example for you cosmic. The blue wagon is Lesney, the yellow is Husky. The sizes of them are essentially the same, but there are differences.

The yellow one is a TV Film car (although apparently not to scale. The blue one has a retractable rear roof (made of metal of course).
