Thanks Philo.
Another brand that is not mentioned a lot is Mastro De Paja. This is an Italian brand that is really consistent and smokes as well as many of the more expensive Italian names. They smoke cool and dry and have nice open airways. The estate prices can be really inexpensive.

- Brebbia: I have only 2 yet, but they are my best smokers - I'm sure I will buy more

- Vauen: I have one but it is my other best smoker just next to the Brebbias.
Compared to these pipes even my Savinellis or Winsløw are just "ok-ish although they are excellent pipes as well.

Mastro Beraldi for me. I have 8 of them and they smoke better than my Savinellis. The MB's are all distinct from one another and, in my book, a great deal for the money.
I have Mastro Beraldi as one of my most under rated pipes, also.

Pipes that have not been mentioned here:

Becker i Musicó,

Karl Erik,

There are wonderful pipes out there, but these are, in my opinion, underrated.

Widely distributed but little discussed, Mogen Johansen's Johs pipes are well crafted and trustworthy. This carver turns them out at a frantic clip, but carefully done. He may use some pre-cut stems to keep up the volume, but he uses good materials (sometimes excellent light weight briar on medium or large pipes). I think I must have about five, a big freehand, a XL apple, a diplomat, a jaunty bent Dublin, a Lovat. A reliable and good-smoking product with a personal touch, the carver's hand on each. When you have a shape in mind, check out Johs. He keeps the prices moderate.
