I’d agree with Pipestud on his Briarworks assessment. I have one that was given to me and have held several. They are really putting out some high quality stuff for their price point for sure.

Although my stable is modest in comparison to many here, only 60 or so, the vast majority are estate pipes that I've refurbed.
That being said, most of them were purchased because of their shape or grain, with the exception of the 4 Dunnies I've been able to pick up.
My collection is obviously disparate and quite eclectic.
The ones that were relatively cheap and don't seem to be overly popular are...
Rahm
Calabresi
Dr Gabow
Keyclub
Longchamp
Kings Grain
Medico
And countless "No Name's"

I bought a Dr Grabow "Viscount" last week and although i am a new pipe smoker, to me it smokes wonderful, i have been searching for another here in the UK and coming up with nothing. I don't know if this is because they are popular or unpopular. I would love to get another 1 or 2 :)

You think Dunhill is underrated? I thought everyone already sees it as the mother of all pipes
 Just noticed that. Mine have become pocket, and work pipes. Mostly for aros.

I agree on Brebbia.
I have a rusticated Brebbia that is by far the best rustication of any pipe I've ever owned. It is also tremendous smoker.

I don't think Dunhill is underrated, and I took the listing as an ironic joke. But it is interesting to consider how it might be underrated. I think the extravagant, you might say abusive, pricing repels a high percentage of pipe smokers who just say, I'm not going there. So many don't enjoy what there is to savor about these pipes priced like diamonds. They're fine pipes, but they're factory pipes. They have a lot more in common with other good brands that cost a fraction of what they do. So they are underrated because they fence out the majority of pipe smokers, who have no enthusiasm and eventually no opinion about them whatever. But good for you who save up and buy one, new or estate, and get what fun there is out of them. They have snappy fit and finish and many are quite handsome. Like a number of other brands that don't cost as much.

I'll agree with Briarworks and I'll add Moonshine

That's it for brands that I'm familiar with.
Here's a couple makers I love and are rarely mentioned.

L'Anatra, Neerup, and Edwards. All excellent smokers. Edwards made quite a range of pipes and although all were well-engineered and made from good Algerian briar, some were butt ugly and many times had fills, but I have a number of great Edwards pipes that I bought for next to nothing.

I am surprised no one has mentioned Invicta briars yet, Pete Ellam is a wonderful guy to deal with and while I only have one

pipe from him it is an absolute beauty with the craftsmanship being spot on. The prices are almost ridiculously low compared to the quality you are getting.

I highly recommend him although his website is not

always up to date, just sent him an email and tell what you are looking for or what he has on offer.

- Peterson (They get a lot of flak regarding quality control, however, they're some the most smoked and enjoyed in my collection.)
- Brebbia (Which seems to be a popular choice in this post.)
- Missouri Meerschaum (For some reason, there's still a backwoods stigma towards cob pipes.)

On the list should be Old Dominion cob pipes, made out of heirloom corn and with reed stems for an authentic historical smoking experience. These are kind of a specialty item, but once you get used to the reed stem, an excellent lightweight pipe. And they are fun and historical looking, as the ads say good for re-enactors, or for people who want to do a little spontaneous re-enacting for grandkids, dorm mates, or random passer-bys. And they are priced in a most reasonable way.

I agree with those who say Neerup (P. Jeppesen) and I agree with Mso, the Italian Stanwell’s are among my best smoking pipes and can be found for excellent prices.
That’s all I got.
