While, I don't want this virus, and as I have had pneumonia twice, the doc keeps telling me that once you've had pneumonia, it will keep getting worse if I get it again... I would probably live through it. But, I have elderly family and friends who might not live through it.
There have already been deaths in the US.

It doesn't quite look like a cold, but heck, as I get older, even a cold feels like a step closer to death.

I went out last weekend for one drink and declined to shake hands with anyone, citing that I had recently had a cold and didn't want to pass it around. I offered them the elbow dap instead, 'cause I'm nice like that, but then I overheard some folks saying they thought I was afraid of Coronavirus and that everyone is making a big deal over nothing. I finally spoke up and said, "guys! I've had viral pinkeye for the last week and a half and was just trying to spare you some misery! I'm down for a round of hugs if anyone thinks I'm just being weird! We all know I'm weird, but if I was paranoid Coronavirus was breaking out in town, the last place I'd go is a crowded bar full of sluts and hobo humpers like y'all!" I got a few laughs, a few apologies, and a few nervous/concerned looks. Ah, good times.

I stopped at a gas station to fill up on the $1.84 gas, and witnessed a guy opening the windshield squeegee stand and taking the whole stack of those heavy duty towels. I asked him WTF,.... “it’s the toilet paper shortage, dude!!”
He’s right. Those could probably be used 2-3 times.

What's the connection between the toilet paper frenzy and the coronavirus? Is everyone running around swathed in TP face masks? I don't know about the sandpaper some of you may be using, but mine says it's made in the good old US of A, where we know our toilet paper. So it can't be a supply concern.

There is none.

It's just the unthinking public reacting irrationally. They have some notion that there may be supply chain problems in general...and toilet paper is their first impulse toward something to make them feel more secure. As long as they have plenty of TP they feel like they're still in the first world.

If there's ever any catastrophe on a large enough scale...and the shit ever really hits the fan for whatever reason...they won't need TP because they'll run out of food in a few days or less. That's when the Mad Max stuff really starts happening.

Several days without food in these huge cities and it'll be really, really ugly.

Damn, I never realized it but you’re right. Around here it’s bread and milk. Why the fuck bread and milk? Wipe your ass with bread and get sick on milk? Mix the two together and bake it?

We did stock up on TP, but not an overwhelming amount, just enough that if we needed to stay quarantined for a month or so, we could. We also picked up enough food and stuff.

But, the shelves for TP are still empty here, so if this lasts, I might be able to barter... kind of like folks that stockpiled McClellands that didn't smoke McClellands could control the market.

Everyone need to get comfortable with the fact that 30-40% of this country is probably going to get sick.

Not to be Captain obvious, but this group in particular probably should practice an abundance of caution. This strain attacks the lungs in older people (75+) or the health compromised. The kill rate is high for those 2 groups.

Wash your hand and stay away from people for about 3 weeks. This will flame out by then.
