I thought it was an Australian thing, but it seems to be spreading faster than the Corona virus itself... Australia was hit with toilet paper madness last week.

Nah, they can't be Aussies. We don't do Halloween [If those were Aussie kids there'd be smeared chocolate to look like Jays 'estate' dunny paper]

You're probably referring to the African immigrant who started a brawl in a supermarket by trying to snatch packs of dunny paper from other shoppers.
Those people have a high sense of entitlement.

The Coronavirus is an engineered variant of the flu.
It has a higher mortality rate amongst the elderly, the sick and little kids. [ Those who are at higher risk of the regular strains of flu]

The high security lab where the Chinese have admitted samples of the Coronavirus are kept, is just up the road from the fish market where it first struck. No, not suspicious at all. Nothing to see here folks.

Considering the way the panic has affected the stock market and economies worldwide, it would not surprise me in the least if the release was a deliberate act.
If the Chinese start buying up stock in companies that own infrastructure and agricultural land, it would certainly firm that suspicion.

Although the Coronavirus may well have a higher mortality rate than regular flu strains, I don't expect the outbreak to be significantly worse than most flu seasons.
Remember the SARS panic? The Swine-flu? All storms in a teacup.

It would not at all surprise me if some countries make vaccines to 'protect' against coronavirus compulsory.

Even if true, it backfired. The Chinese economy is going to shrink this year by 2-3% when historically they have been growing at 6.5-7% per year. Everyone has found ways to produce outside of China (Pacific Rim). They will not get all that business back. This epidemic has knocked their economy backwards a decade.

EDIT: Pretty sure that little kids don't even get the disease much less die from it.

I just returned from my local Walmart. The toilet paper shelves were empty except for about a dozen 4 packs. I bought one 4 pack because we need it at home. Also, the aisle with the bottled water...almost empty. This is nuts!

If it was intentional the Chinese would have anticipated any short-term loss. They play the long game.
Their economy was already affected by the new tariffs. Coincidental timing or not?
The U.S. owes China trillions of dollars because the trade imbalance was allowed to continue for far too long.

Atm we don't have all the facts to form a solid idea so off course it's all just conjecture on my part.
Time might reveal the bigger picture.

The elderly, the sick AND babies are all at high risk if they catch the flu. And yes, babies and toddlers often do. They're at higher risk of death because their immune systems have not developed.

I was at Costco this evening to avoid the weekend rush and it was crazier than I've ever seen it. The lines were all the way to the back of the store

No lie. Folks have become worse @ hoarding TP than tobacco. Just went grocery shopping and had to go to 3 stores before I found any-Walmart was wiped out of it, (no pun intended). Third store barely had any. Joked with the clerk about buying TP on Amazon and she told me a customer said they tried and Amazon is not shipping right now. She said she wasn't sure when the store would get any more. We're starting to have a TP crisis in America and I'll be danged if I'm going to start using those dead leaves I just raked up.
