What's funniest to me is when someone puts an outlandish price on something, no one bids on it, the auction expires, & they turn around to re-list it @ the exact same outlandish price as if now someone is going to pay it...
Geeze, that is good tobacco but not that great. I think he's a bit high, in price I mean.
By the way, someone put a bid on this crazily enough. A nice feature like Cigar Bids does is the location of where the bidder is from for all the insanity that goes around on Tin Bids

This doesn't seem unreasonable to me. As a retired jewelry store owner, I learned that there is a price margin that reaches a more exclusive group, and you can get a higher price if you are patient. Just because the majority of the people who pass through your store shop in a much lower price grouping, doesn't mean that someone will pass through that will buy that thing at that price.

There is a group of people who are willing to pay $13,000 for a pipe made by someone they admire. Just because we all don't fit into that group, doesn't mean that they aren't out there.

Hmmm? That's odd. I got stuff from there a few times, always plugging the price I wanted to pay, won some, lost some, never noticed anything odd with the ending timer. Having a reserve price wouldn't explain what you're describing though, maybe snipers?

A Swiss online auction site does something interesting likely to deter snipers: auctions tend to end sort of sudden death-like, 30-60 seconds before or after the stated time. Had some fun and good deals on ebay 25 years ago when nobody knew ebay other than internet nerds, would set up alarms to wake up and snipe, Ctrl+F5 wars etc, not anymore, now if I want something I jut put my price and that's it.
I bid on an auction site that if there is a bid in the last 5 minutes the countdown resets to 5 minutes. Nice idea.

I always saw the limited releases as a work around to FDA regulation, No? Tobacco blends can be Under a certain quantity, either by weight or number of available product at one time, and they fall outside of the most restrictive FDA regulation. I don’t disagree that the hype around them is blown way out of proportion. They would just be another blend back in 2015.

I am so happy that I am easy to please when it comes to tobacco. There is nothing out there that I have tried - and I’ve tried almost all of them - that cries out as being so good that paying more than the manufactures price seems reasonable. i am just as happy with BCA as I am with whatever anyone is chasing.
I was recently called a nasty name for saying I had a lot of out of production tins and bulk from Dunhill, McClelland, GLP....and a few more.
Not one of these blends were bought on the collectors market. They were bought over the last 30 years while they were in production. When they are gone, they are gone, no big deal.

I can't imagine why that would upset anyone. Those are all fine tobaccos. I have some Dunhill EMP still jarred and waiting for me. I am thankful I have them and wouldn't think of parting with them.

I believe they thought I was buying these tobaccos now at inflated prices. He gave me the lecture about "don't worry about lost blends", and "blends come and go, find new favorites".....
I just let him know that ive been piping sinse before he was born. :)

I find it odd that ngrown men feel the need to lecture others. I agree with you. People do best when they mind their own business. The internet seems to embolden jackasses and know it alls.

I have to laugh at the people who list multiple single tin lots in a row of the same blend. Do these people not understand how auctions work? Why would you compete against yourself. Just list one and see if it sells. If it does, list another, and so on. Or list one lot with 5 or whatever.

Wow. I just looked on the site and see what you mean!
They listed way too many of the same thing. Looks like they listed pretty much everything they have in their cellar at once.

I'm going to call out a guy named Allen from Instagram who had a conniption fit because his local B&M wouldn't sell him more than one tin A DAY (!!!) of a certain new blend because he wanted to dump it all on Tinbids for $250 a tin for Chinese buyers.

Man what has happened to the pipe community I used to love.
