It seems very handy for lobbing anonymous libel at folks.
Also useful for offering up deliberate bad advice and classic misdirection, only to retreat behind the veil of anonymity once again. You know, along the lines of, "Wow, so glad STG is keeping all of Sutliff's goopers! Was soooo annoying for the last one and three-quarters centuries having to wade through page after page of all those lousy non-aromatics everyone hates!"

I notice some members turn off public access to their profile. I can't find where you turn this feature on. Can someone tell me how you turn it on? Or, as some might say, please school me on this feature. It seems very handy for lobbing anonymous libel at folks.
I don’t need people seeing my boxers.

In case there is anyone concerned about these features, please allow me to explain.

Here's what you can possibly see on a member's profile page.

1. Number of posts they've made.
2. Reaction score.
3. Date they joined.
4. Last seen (what they were last viewing in the forums.)
5. Latest activity. (Their last posts, replies, or reactions.)
6. Birthday (If they filled it out)
7. Website (If they have one and filled this out.)
8. Location (If they filled it out.)
9. About - a little bio IF they filled it out.)
10. Signature

Setting everything to "Nobody" does not make you anonymous. Your username is still visible, so if UserXYZ gives crap info, you will still know it is UserXYZ you might want to ignore, or report.

Regarding VPNs:

Some people use VPNs to be anonymous and do bad things - like spammers signing up and spamming the site. I could site wide block usage of VPNs. However, others legitimately use VPNs for privacy, and some employers require that their employees use a VPN when they go online.

I'm sure nobody would dare be in the forums during their work hours, but just in case I'll leave the site open to them.

There are some funny posts here about VPNs, but I would appreciate it if no one used it to mess around, even if they're trying to be funny. It IS actually against the rules of the site to have more than one account. It is easy to ban an account no matter which IP address it uses or is assigned by the VPN. Fictional member, UserXYZ can be blocked at the member level no matter which ip their VPN assigns.

You can also still see the everyone’s posts even if they don’t let you access their profile.

Just click their username on any of their posts, then click the number under “Posts.” You might even be able to find their threads they started using the advanced features but I haven’t tried that.

Not sure what limiting your profile does but I just enabled it because… I actually don’t know why.

Kevin, not my intention to plant evil thoughts in innocent minds. I assume that everyone here knows about VPN by now, but more so aren’t as subversively monkey-wrench minded as myself.

Ban me if you must, but be aware you’ll lose 75% of the membership when all of me’s leaves!

Its one thing if you dont want to share but people dont put their location and then they ask lots of questions. A lot of answers will depend on location if you are talking about tobacco and a blend. I think people dont put it becuase they think they and where they live are the center of the universe.

I am just less likely to answer their questions if I need to know a location to answer and they do not provide it.
