Every time I hear an update they seem to go up 10mph faster than the previous report. They currently say 155mph winds. That would definitely level my house and property. Be safe. I don't want any part of it. People are running out of fuel. What if there is a major wreck? And you have maniacs who are panicking, doing stupid things. If I lived right on the coast, I'd be gone and it would be to the SE Coast, West Palm or Fort Lauderdale. I'm 7 miles from the coast line. If it turns really bad, my in laws have a place a mile up the street with higher ground and a building rated for 200 mph winds. I'm hoping we don't lose power for multiple weeks. We have a generator capable of running the entire house except the water heater. Gas will be a problem after a few days, we will see.
Do we as a community need to set up a tobacco relief fund for men who lost their cellars to these storms?
I'm loading my tobacco into a large, super duty rubber raft. If later in the week, you hear reports of a crazy man floating in the hurricane wreckage smoking a pipe, that will likely be me.
Those folks had better be getting out of Dodge. This is going to be a bad one. This is not one to be tough and stick it out.
@hoosierpipeguy I will say a prayer for you and your family my man. Your family with the 200mph rated metal shelter sounds like a pretty good plan. Stay safe out there.

you know New York gets hit with these kinds of storms sometimes and it's sort of like when it snows a few inches in the south. Not as prepared for the chaos as the places that deal with it more often.
Ive got a couple friends that live in the Boca Raton and Ft Lauderdale area. They both live on the intercostal waterways. They are used to hurricanes but it doesn't get any easier cleaning up afterwards.

Good luck to all in harm's way. I've been in 3 hurricanes, including Gilbert in '88 in Kingston, Jamaica. I'd be most fearful of flying debris and storm surges. And the aftermath. There was a bunch of looting after Gilbert passed Kingston. We ate mainly PB&J sandwiches that week.
I remember the infamous Gilbert via dancehall reggae, "wild, wild wild Gilbert" and one line that always cracked me up, "satellite dish, satellite dish, who seen wha'appen to me satellite d-dish?".
That was a hilarious song! That one dish probably served a whole neighborhood!
The hostel where I stayed had a corrugated tin roof. After the winds passed, the landlady sent all of us guests out to look for missing pieces that had blown off. We returned with more than she had lost!
