It's funny you say that. I watch a lot of true crime documentaries and Florida comes up time and again as the setting for some crazy murder/murders. Maybe it's something in the water? Utah comes up quite a bit, as well.

🤔🤔🤔
Don't want to be a shmuck about Florida about to face nature's wrath, but there's an old internet meme that if you google "florida man [your birthday]" there's bound to be some news of some Florida man having done something utterly stupid and/or illegal on that day.

On topic, this morning I wondered and googled if hurricanes can be nuked to dissipate. Funnily enough there's been research done on the idea and the answer is categorically that nuking a hurricane wouldn't do anything to it other than make it radioactive and more destructive.

Trying not to celebrate prematurely but it looking rather good right now. Hurricane is south of Tampa so the storm surge won’t devastate the Bay. I’m sitting just on the south side of the eye which is some kind of wind sheer zone that is relatively mild and minimal wind. Looks like Cat 2 at landfall and thankfully moving through fast. Supposed to hit Sarasota around 8 pm EST. Worst should be over by midnight.

Keeping fingers crossed.

I've been praying and lit a candle at Mass this morning for all you in Florida!

We evacuated on Monday. A normal 2.5 hour drive to Gainesville took 5 hours. Our friend that left on Tuesday took 6 hours to get here.

Brian stayed up late Monday and recorded two podcast episodes, then flew to Vegas on Tuesday.

I set up my end of the podcast for yesterday from the hotel, and did my work ahead for next Tuesday as well.

For Helene, it took us 4 days to get power back. If it's the same this time (not counting on it with a much worse storm for St. Pete), then we would get power back on Monday.

I have to head home by Monday unless I want to go without prescription meds. Hoping for power, or may have to find a new solution in the local area when we go back.

As of now, home still has power as I can watch the storm on my cameras. We always lose it when the storm hits. It's pretty much guaranteed.

St. Pete is getting hit in two hours with a cat 3, and it seems Brian's house in Orlando will get hit with a cat 2 or 1 soon after.

Hoping we both come home to minimal damage. He flies home Tuesday.

All the storms are nasty. But there are some who deserves the title "bitch". Then that Helene, she was so nasty she's in category "cunt" all by herself. Milton might just turn out to be the "dick".

Seemingly not as bad as the news / weather reporting blew it up to be, but ...

Pinellas County Sheriff's Office:

Effective immediately, all access points to Pinellas County are closed until further notice as officials begin assessing damage.

There is extensive damage in certain parts of the county including downed trees, downed power infrastructure, and flooding that make the roadways extremely dangerous. Additionally, power is out in 60% of the county and there is no potable water or sewer in the City of St. Petersburg, Gulfport, and Lealman.

We’re asking residents to continue to shelter in place and stay off the roadways. If you left the county, do not return until the county is reopened.

Tropicana Field roof ripped off by winds during Hurricane Milton

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla — Hurricane Milton's winds ripped off the roof of Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg Wednesday evening.

Tropicana Field was a staging area for hundreds of Florida National Guardsmen and electrical workers before the storm.
