FYI. The Mayor of Tampa is advising all to evacuate; those who stay may not survive, even in evac shelters.
Praying diligently for all in area.

Every time I hear an update they seem to go up 10mph faster than the previous report. They currently say 155mph winds. That would definitely level my house and property. Be safe. Strap in if you need to.FYI. The Mayor of Tampa is advising all to evacuate; those who stay may not survive, even in evac shelters.

State highways can be your friend when you need to evacuate. When we evacuated Slidell for the big K storm, instead of getting on the interstate we traveled north on a 2 lane state road. It was fairly slow until we got into Mississippi and turned west on a four lane highway but we made it to Texas in six hours.
I knew a radio personality who evacuated New Orleans heading to Houston. He left four hours before we did and made reports on his progress. He crossed the Texas state line about four hours after we did.
Do we as a community need to set up a tobacco relief fund for men who lost their cellars to these storms?I'm 45 miles South of Tampa in Sarasota. This one certainly looks nasty. Got the hurricane shutters installed today. Have family a mile up the street with a metal building rated for 200 mph. Will probably go there if it still looks as bad as it gets closer.Hoping my tobacco and pipes survive. LOL
I'm loading my tobacco into a large, super duty rubber raft. If later in the week, you hear reports of a crazy man floating in the hurricane wreckage smoking a pipe, that will likely be me.Do we as a community need to set up a tobacco relief fund for men who lost their cellars to these storms?
If you're definitely staying we will be praying for you ! In the meantime, if you have time, maybe you can strap a Missouri Meerschaum with a wind cap to your roof and give us a definitive review later this week from the raft ! Good luck dear friend and courage!I'm 45 miles South of Tampa in Sarasota. This one certainly looks nasty. Got the hurricane shutters installed today. Yes we'll be pretty pissed at you if anything real bad happens to you. So be safe.Stay
Stay safe, Mark.
you know New York gets hit with these kinds of storms sometimes and it's sort of like when it snows a few inches in the south. Not as prepared for the chaos as the places that deal with it more often.Good luck to all who stay. I wouldn't want to. Luckily living in NYC we don't have much of that to worry about. American storms scare me terribly.
I can read it now. Florida man's corn cob pipe survives hurricane while man doesn't. Dies from injuries sustained when falling from roof. On a serious note, thanks for the prayers. If you're definitely staying we will be praying for you ! There will definitely be some high winds up your way. Stay safe my friend. We're overdue for a pipe club meeting. Hope our regular meeting spot in Tampa survives.Stay
Stay safe, Mark.
I remember the infamous Gilbert via dancehall reggae, "wild, wild wild Gilbert" and one line that always cracked me up, "satellite dish, satellite dish, who seen wha'appen to me satellite d-dish?".Good luck to all in harm's way. I've been in 3 hurricanes, including Gilbert in '88 in Kingston, Jamaica. I'd be most fearful of flying debris and storm surges. And the aftermath. There was a bunch of looting after Gilbert passed Kingston. We ate mainly PB&J sandwiches that week.
That was a hilarious song! That one dish probably served a whole neighborhood!I remember the infamous Gilbert via dancehall reggae, "wild, wild wild Gilbert" and one line that always cracked me up, "satellite dish, satellite dish, who seen wha'appen to me satellite d-dish?".
