The point is the thieves. He should have been able to have 10k in cash in the back seat , and it be there when he went back to his car. The reason I carry a gun, and most people probably is because of bad parents. Plain and simple. If everyone on the planet had been raised by my dad I would have nothing to worry about (not just my dad , lots of good parents out there.) However there are POS people that are spitting out POS kids every single day. Those POS kids grow up and try and take my stuff, or injure my family. The solution is for parents to stop being bad, however I dont have control over that. What I do have limited control over is if I am a victim of their bad parenting.

It is amazing how many people look down/ poke fun at me daily for owning guns. Then the house on their street gets robbed with the wife having her world changed in a dramatic way. Then all of a sudden they are asking me to teach them how to use a gun.
Or during the tornadoes in AL everyone running on generators, 3 get stolen on the street and my Father in law asks to borrow a shotgun from his crazy gun loving son in law. But these SAME guns where evil/bad the day before.

The right to "bear arms" is a misconception, it does not mean it is your obligation to keep a weapon. The problem with guns - and indeed other weapons - is the more people hold them, the worse the problem gets. Weapon amnesties in London (incl. knives) have proved to be very successful in violent areas. If you posses a weapon then you are contributing to the wider problem. I ask you this question, how does the possession of a gun make you feel empowered?

I don't feel empowered. I feel protected. Don't confuse the two. The difference between people thinking one is prepared or paranoid is the simple fact of whether you needed the gun or not. The ones who think I'm paranoid probably live a sheltered life and think that bad things won't happen to them or in there presence. The ones who think I'm prepared have had something happen to themselves or close friends or family. Watch the news. Don't be sheltered. It's all around us. The minute you think it can't happen to you it will.

How about we enforce the laws we have instead of trying to make more that go un-enforced. Gun laws aren't the answer. Holding people accountable for breaking laws already in place is. Get rid of this ninny plea deal bullshit in our court systems today. Death sentence? Ok pal, you get ONE appeal and that's it. Armed robbery with a minimum 5 years served should be just that! Not plea dealed down to robbery and out after a year with some probation. No more of this 'working the system' when it comes to justice. No more of this feeling sorry for criminals. How about feeling sorry for the victims! What are we teaching the youth of today? It's ok, daddy will shell out the big bucks and hire an expensive lawyer and get you out soon. If I ever got arrested as a kid my parents would be the last people I would call. They would leave me there to learn a lesson. Not come pick me up and bail me out. That's their hard-earned money.

pipedude we see how well gun bans worked in Washington DC where it became the murder capital of the US. Gun bans only take guns out of the hands of innocent people not out of the hands of criminals.
That article you posted is so full of crap. He's trying to say that people ran out and bought guns when Obama was elected because he's a minority. That's crap. People ran out and bought guns because they know he's a radical left wing socialist nut that will want to ban all gun ownership. I apologize if I offend the sensibilities of the left wing here however I believe in moderation and that includes political views.
The problem is with the people committing these crimes not with the weapons they decide to use on innocent people. What are we doing about that? 30 to 40 years ago if someone was mentally unstable they were institutionalized and medicated. Now they are medicated but who's there to make them take their medications? I have a friend who's wife is a Psychiatrist and who is anti gun but believes the handling the mentally unstable members of our society aren't being handled properly.

Hawk fudged up and left his gun in the car. He admitted that. He is a member of the American Military and in my opinion is more than qualified to own a gun. It is ones choice to own or not own a firearm. When we allow an outside force to make our choices for us we become weak and vulnerable. I am not going into politics but it is clear in my eye that if we feel the need to protect ourselves it is our right to do so. What is good for one man is not good for another but that is what makes society fascinating. It is okay to have different opinions and this thread should not be another 2nd amendment debate. The guy was robbed for crying out loud. It doesn't matter what was stolen. He was violated. Let's all just take a breath, relax, and get into the Christmas spirit. What's done is done. Fire up a fresh bowl and enjoy the holidays!

It is not illegal to leave a concealed gun in a locked car where I live. At the moment it is still illegal to break into a car and steal a gun. That may change at any moment, and the lenient punishment makes it worth the risk to many career criminals.

The more people talk about guns the more I want one. I'm thinking Smith and Wesson, some kind of revolver. Anti gun policies simply do not work, they take the control away from law abiding citizens, there is a reason why the 2nd ammendment is so important and I am not talking about a revolution. I personally carry a knife on me at all times and watch my surroundings, I am just hoping that I do not ever bring it to a gun fight.

I do not carry a gun or own one because I do not have the skills necessary to properly use one. For now I have a billy in my car, a bat by my door, and carry and ASP when in shady areas. Am I at risk? Possibly. Do I take all possible precautions to avoid potentially deadly situations? Yes. Do I support the right of Americans to own and use firearms in a legal manner? YES!!!
Mass shootings even happen in countries where guns are heavily regulated such as Australia (Monash university shooting anyone?) While shootings are not terribly common in countries where firearm possession is encouraged but regulations are enforced such as Switzerland. So I doubt a ban would work as well as many think.

You cannot go wrong with a smith and Wesson. It will not lose its value. Go to a local range that let's you rent guns before shooting. If your new take a class and do some research. I'm not overly familiar with there model numbers, but you can get into a decent smith revolver for around $450-$650. Go to a gun store and hold them. See how they feel in your hand. You can also pick up a decent Taurus revolver for about half the price of a smith with a lifetime warranty. Their quality has really improved over the years. Just do a lot of research.

A S&W Model 36 is a classic revolver in .38 special. It has endured the test of time as a concealed carry favorite and a reliable backup. You can get an older one (Without the "Hillary Hole") for about $450 if you shop around. The Ruger Sp101 in .357 magnum is a great little snubby, too. I carry a full sized Mil Spec 1911 around, but that is a lot of gun and not for everyone. I've been interested in the S&W M&P Shiled semiauto recently, too. It's available in .40S&W or good old 9mm Parabellum!
