Taurus in the 60's were a cheap sat nite special, very different from what they make today.

As far as the ranch goes I can handy man, hunt, farm and butcher. Maybe I'll just ranch hand for one of yall. I come with my own savage arms .308 bolt action long rifle and savage arms bolt action .22 long rifle, plus whatever ammo is left by the time I get there. Fortunately with my aim, missing ammo will be replaced with meat.

The "mainstream" media will not give attention to these types of stories because it would run counter to the propaganda they churn out 24/7:
Numerous school massacres stopped by gun owners who wielded their weapons in defense of children

I'm trying my best not to respond to some of the anti-gun comments.
Suffice to say, the naivety and cognitive dissonance that they possess is simply astounding.

Yep. :?
I would have my Yanik meerschaum back in August if it weren't for it getting lost in southern California.
Now I suppose it could have just fallen off a truck... but, thieves is more likely.

Sorry for your loss. Once upon a time thieves got their hands chopped off. Sounds like a strong deterrent to me.

I'd settle for a finger for each time they are caught, caulterised with a hot iron after a good salting.

@hawk60ce

Your answer is quite typical. You feel threatened by an unknown danger, and you're told to believe that this could happen at any moment. This is exactly what neo-conservative society has done to you. As a member of society you feel it is your duty to protect yourself from an unknown impending danger, that may happen "at any moment". Yet, the possession of a weapon somehow provides the necessary protection..I think not.
Thank you to everyone else for your comments, it has been most enlightening.

So how do you suggest I protect myself? Please inform me? And you're right, it can happen at any time. If we knew when a crime was going to be committed we wouldn't have to worry about anything. You have apparently lived a very sheltered life and have not been subject to the cruelties of this world. Consider yourself lucky. I flew around Iraq in a Blackhawk for a year with a loaded M240 machine gun, loaded M4, and loaded M9. You call me paranoid? I consider myself prepared. Not to worry though, I'd still risk my life to save yours. Wouldn't think twice about it. Do you think the people in Connecticut knew there world was going to be turned upside down on Friday? Or the people in Colorado going out for a midnight movie knew what was going to happen. What about the mall shooting in oregon? How about the auto zone worker in virginia who used his weapon to stop a robbery at which a co-worker was being held at gun point? i guess he shouldve cowered in the corner of the room. do you watch the news? certainly the news isnt conservative. The 'neo-conservative society' as you put it has not done anything to me. I have lived in this world, I have been shot at, I have been put in those positions. I will not allow myself or my family to be unprotected in those positions.

The top quote when contrasted with the reality as outlined by Hawk60ce in the bottom one, is as frightening as it is honest.

 What a great answer Hawk... but I seriously doubt he will answer any of your questions or respond to your comments.

Really quite sad that there are people out there like this that feel they know better than you on whats best for you. :(

Thats because there are people that truly live in a dream world... they have never been through a serious traumatic event or any serious hardship... they dont know what it means to truly survive.

How fantastic would it be to live in a world where there is no violence? but the truth of the matter is this... it will never happen! Violence has been around since day 1.

You hit the nail on the head Captain. Unfortunately there are too many people in office that think they know what's best for us and want to be able to tell us what we can and can't do.

Yah please lock this thread while pipedude looks to be in the vast minority because I would hate to find out otherwise.

not certain of the purpose of locking the thread when as adults we could all just stop posting and let the people trying to incite argument continue posting until the thread is locked due to idiocy. After all it's not like anyone is holding a gun to our heads. 8) We are all adults whose personal beliefs have been formed over the years and hardened into what they are. Let's forget the arguments and remember what it all boils down to, some people will always have weapons...I'm a vet and a martial artist and a survivalist, lethality is never more than a few steps away for me. Some people would prefer they didn't have weapons. It's moot to discuss in a thread concerning thieves. Those thieves may or may not have been armed prior to the truck, they may or may not still have the gun now. as far as safety goes I about as concerned as I am about missing nukes. Maybe even less so since at least against a gun a stand some sort of chance. But the odds of me getting shot at by a legally purchased gun, in the hand of it's rightful owner, are remarkably slim and that's because legal gun owners don't shoot people without a reason. Murder still illegal and the moment you take a gun and do something illegal you are no longer a legal gun owner, you are a criminal. And fortunately here in the states presumed innocent until proven guilty, means you have to be charged first. Which means there has to be reason to believe that you did something illegal.
