While I’ve been around a while and have a few items cellared, I has hoping to get your recommendations for non-latakia top-flight Oriental blends.

Virginias and Perique compliments are good, as is the possibity of some burley, Kentucky, or uncased cavendish. Not a real fan of fruity toppings.

In the past I’ve enjoyed C&Ds Oriental Silk, Three Friars, GLP Cairo, and a couple others.

The blends I have cellared all have quite a bit of age on them and are very rich.

So many blends have come out in the past decade that I thought it worth trying something different.

I don’t mind a nic hit, but something fresh, creamy and luscious sounds nice.

Thanks guys.

You might be surprised by Daughters & Ryan's Ramback Balkan.
It's a blend of several orientals with a really unobtrusive flue cured Virginia.
It's my go to smoke when I don't want sweet.
It's my go to when my mouth is fatigued.
It's my go to when I'm not sure what to go to.
Under $25 a pound. Put that in your fancy pipe and smoke it... :nana:
Note: Ramback REGULAR is a different creature. Make sure it's Ramback BALKAN.

Three Friar's doesn't have orientals in it. Or are you just mentioning blends that you've had that dont include Latakia?
C&D's - Orion's Arrow is good for a Va/Per with the oriental addition.

Capt. Earl's - Honor Blend as well.

Another vote for G.L. Pease's Temple Bar and Regents Flake.
McClelland's Grand Oriental Series...if you can find it without being scalped to death.
Samuel Gawith's BS Flake (Brown Sugar Flake) only available from the Danish Pipe Shop.

A second for Robt Lewis' Orcilla Mixture. Robert Lewis doesn't do many mixtures, but all are excellent imo, especially their Tree Mixture.

derfargin: Yes, awareif the Three Friars content. I was just mentioning some things in the spice range I like.
Temple Bar and Regents Flake are on my radar, and I liked Greg’s blends thing I haven’t had anything newer than his first run of Jackknife. It’s been a while....
glassjapan: I just let my last tin of a Grand Oriental go to a friend. He’s in for an experience.

You should also check Peretti offerings such as Tashkent (which they claim it contains only orientals) and Oriental N 40, excellent choices.

Might want to check out H&H Sweet and Savory.
Red and Yellow Virginias, Yenidje, Basma, Dark Fired and a little Perique. It comes on a little bland at first light but develops pretty quickly as you progress. I find mixing a few strands of something like FVF with it helps to give a deeper taste.

In this category, my top three are:
- Robert Lewis "Orcilla Mixture" (a classic, benchmark non-lat oriental)
- HU Tobacco "Flanagan" (strange name for an oriental, but an outstanding blend, much richer than most non-lat orientals)
- GL Pease "Cairo" (less rich, but I love the lemony/citrus flavour for a first-of-the-day bowl)
