SmokingPipes.com is selling a special edition of Squadron Leader with Perique. Anyone has any idea if this is something to go buy :) ? Apparently that was the recipe in the old days.

I got 6 tins. 1 for snacking and 5 for the cellar.
It is a limited run of 2000 tins, so jump while you can.
Round it out with some lb of C&D still on sale so you get free shipping.
=)

LOL! The moment I got the email I went on there and was about to order 5. 1 for snaking and 4 for the seller being a limited edition and so on.
Then I stopped and asked myself...... I haven't even tried Squadron Leader before (although I hear good things about it). I have a lineup of untried tobaccos already in my cellar to last me for maybe a couple of years. What exactly is going on here in my mind?
Hearing the well crafted marketing message I was meant to feel a sense of urgency and go buy right now before its too late something I never tried before and have no connection with.
Dear Mr. TAD... I'm going to say no to you this time. Not because Squadron Leader is no worthy of respect (heck.. He's a squadron leader) but because I'm for once going to listen to the voice of reason that tells me that the momentary sense of urgency will disappear and the world will be exactly the same.
The world will be the same minus a few bowls of that special limited edition baccy that I may never get to taste...
Oh no... Now I want to buy it again!!!!!!

As a mattar of principle and to, for once, prove to myself that I'm no victim of TAD I'll pass on the Squadron Leader :)
oh oh... Isn't this similar to the guy who, to assuage himself - and his wife, decides to skip on the pub this one night just to prove to himself something he knows isn't true?
Addictions.... Fun stuff :D

Couldn't resist the temptation. FYI, if you want it, suggest you jump on it NOW! After I revised my order, they have less than 150 tins.

Seems like it will be good. Something to perk up the old leathery blend a bit. Yum.

To all the guys who are struggling to remain rational about buying this tobacco, let me insert some reality into the situation.
It never matters how much tobacco you have in total, nor does it matter of what type, mostly alike, somewhat alike or entirely different, that you already have cellared. The real choice is always to buy more. Don't think of what's in the cellar that you might enjoy just as much, cave to the lure of what you don't have, and get it.
The good thing is that the Feds will, one day, increase taxes and the price of tobacco will become onerous here just as it is now abroad. Though buying tobacco doesn't ever need to be defended, as it is in itself an obvious good, that's always a good reason to buy more tobacco. The longer they take to raise taxes also provides you with more time to buy tobacco. But then again, drop that $10K you were going to deposit in your son's college fund on tobacco, today.
Another good reason to buy more tobacco is aging. What you put in the cellar today will come due in 2-5 years, your choice. The point is buy tobacco and cellar it now because aged tobacco is so much better. This principle is infallible per the current pope. Call him up and ask him, why dontcha?
Another good reason to buy more tobacco is that the price of pipes, like the prices of good cigars, will bankrupt you. Therefore don't buy any more pipes and avoid the siren call of your favorite pipe porn sites. Like women, you're gonna want what you look at. Instead, of course, buy more tobacco. You can bankrupt yourself buying tobacco, but it takes a lot longer than buying pipes or cigars, so you can get more pleasure given the length of the buying.
Now when you really lay into it, you're going to find that the boxes in which you store all of your new tobacco are going to pile up, and you're going to need more space. The answer is of course to take out a second mortgage on your pipes or all of your tobacco and build an addition for more storage; and thus to keep on trucking.
In the end you can never have too much tobacco. Before you kick write yourself a note where it was stored the last time you were here so that in your next life you'll know where to go to pick it up. This strategy has been known to defeat the "can't take it with you" policy so common in these parts. Store your pipes in the same place.
Right now, given my discovery of the Lakelands, UK Plugs and HU Tobacco, I could easily drop $5K on tobacco. My problem is I spent all my money cellaring Condor, and my family has long since cut me off. I've got 150 pounds in the cellar, but hey, who's counting?

Can't argue with that logic 4noggins. No sir. Let's see now....home equity loan of hmmmm....value minus liability leaves me with...let's say $100K. 80% of that is $80K. Divided by average cost of 50g tin around, say $10, and I can buy 8000 tins. Wow. Move over Peck. A new king of the cellar is coming.
Oh well, sanity took over just before I pushed the button..only got 2 tins :?

After all the pep talk to myself about being strong I somehow found a reason to order 2 tins.... Now... I'm in Canada so it doesn't really make sense to buy only 2 tins of tobacco given the shipping costs so I obviously added 3 more tins to my order. There you go. Thank you guys.
I think this forum is the main reason why we have TAD. You guys are like those kids my mom didn't want me to go out with at school coz they'd encourage me to do bad stuff :D......... Little did my mom know that I'm usually the one who did the encouraging for most of whom I knew and didn't need any encouragement myself!
Sigh.....

davidintexas, I just wanted you to know that there's no reason in hell that you should deny yourself those 8000 tins.

When I first met SL about 10 years ago or so it was a fine medium English and I had some perique at the time and was used to spicing things up a good bit. Mixing in some perique did wonders for SL and this was without any significant blending/marrying time. If its all gone, it will be back at some time or simply go get some blending perique and have at it. The resulting mixture was delicious.
