Below are some pictures of my cabinet. It is actually a book case my great-grandfather made during the depression era. I inherited the cabinet in 2005 when my great-grandmother passed away. I primarily used it as a display/book case. It wasn't until just a few months ago that the thought occurred to me to use it as my pipe cabinet. The thought should have struck me sooner, I can't believe it sat under my nose that whole time. It is certainly very special knowing that the cabinet has been handed down and that my great-grandfather was also known to puff a pipe or two.

I love that bookcase Jeff. I'm looking for the same thing, it matches our dining room furniture set (from 1927) perfectly. I can't convince my wife to let me use the China cabinet for pipes. She wants to keep our China there, which makes no sense...

(BTW: I showed my wife your case, she says "that's not a book case, that is a China cabinet". See what I'm working with here?, )

I appreciate the compliment Al. I failed to mention earlier that when I thought about converting my bookcase to pipe cabinet, my lady friend said to me, "your just now thinking about that, I thought a long time ago that you should use it for your pipes." I was shocked, to say the least. But I know I have a keeper.
I peruse the antique shops in my area about every month or so and I haven't come across another cabinet like it, but I know they are out there. It really is perfect and although I want to outgrow it, it keeps my TAD and PAD in check.
I hope one day you are able to find that "china/pipe" cabinet you've been looking for.

Pete I love that cabinet. I really like the left hand side...the way you see the rectangle shape through the glass oval. It doesn't unbalance it at all, it's looks like Owl eyes stuffed with goodies.

Uberman3rica, what is the pipe that is in the pipe rack with the duck, I am interested in the middle pipe. I have just won a pipe that looks very similar to that but has no info on it. I would love to know who made it, the one I have seems to have a Danish style to it. Let me know. Thanks.

Holy crap, I had no idea so many people had such incredible racks and numbers of pipes. I have four pipes and a few unopened packs of tobacco. No rack, just a drawer in my dresser . . .

Here she is! I worked on this last fall after getting fed up with having my pipes everywhere and constantly collecting dust. It holds 51 pipes and has 2 sliding plexiglass doors on the top for the pipes and 2 on the bottom for the tobacco and accessories. I haven't done much woodworking in the past so this was a fun and rewarding learning experience. I'm not much of a cigar smoker but my local tobacco shop sells the empty boxes for $1 each which make for a cheap and handsome place for things like pipe cleaners and such on top of my dresser. Oh and take note that I have plenty of room to expand my collection.
