Finally got this Heritage Christmas Spigot XL11. Was really taken by these and was excited to get this one.

However I'm really torn on this pretty obvious fill on it's face.

It's got some beautiful grain and I'm happy with everything else but the fill being so mismatched from the stain is bugging me. Especially since it was almost impossible to see in the SP picture.

SP US is currently sold out of all the Heritage Spigot XL11s and I don't know if they'll be getting more or not. I suppose I'd rather have an imperfect pipe than none at all but still. Should I send it back and hope for a restock? Or am I obsessing over details?

Call and ask. Phone communication is probably key here (and there's time for another drop, although I don't know for sure, since it's not even Halloween).

I'd be a little hot (and not in the good way) if I were you. SPC has great customer service, so pick up the phone and talk to someone before making a decision.

You should be able to order one direct from Petersons website for the same price as Smokingpipes. Just have to wait longer for shipping. If you get another dud though, your kinda screwed at that point. But it is an option. Also check Smoking pipes EU

Remember, the person on the other end of the phone didn't inspect the pipe! Totally agree they are top notch customer service.

There is likely another drop, and maybe a few, and could be one on SP EU, they keep showing up on both sites and it is a long way to Christmas Or you could get lucky with one of those little stain matching pens, it wouldn't be my solution, but if you got lucky . . .

I got sucked back in the other night by a Christmas rusticated No. 127, I like the first Christmas pipe I ordered so much and wanted that shape and was resisting when I hadn't seen one for a bit. Along with some old Britwood, this week will be pipe week!

I have the same one that also has (2) fills. I agree that they could be better matched. I will say that it is a wonderful smoker and really light for it's size.20221016_122127.jpg20221016_122000.jpg

I recently won an ebay auction for a Peterson Emerald 53 Smooth pipe. Apparently, it was purchased back in the 90's. Beautiful pipe. I do have a question for the team here: The draw on it is not great. It is something to do with the stem. It is a p-lip and I ran a few pipe cleaners through it. Is it normal for the draw to be the equivalent of over-packing your pipe?

Nevermind on the question. I ran some alcohol-loaded pipe cleaners through it. Lots of buildup in the stem that is now gone.

Just got my first Peterson pipe: Aran 127 Nickel Band
The stem was fairly loose right out of the box, just a light tug and it came right out. Not sure if that is a Peterson thing since this is my first one. After a couple of smokes it seems to be tightening up a bit.
I wanted to try a PLip, which I'm getting used to. I like the lower heat but it's harder to get the flavors on the tongue.
It's a nice looking pipe but feels a bit dainty, very lightweight and not much mass to it. Feeling a bit of buyer's remorse but maybe it will grow on me more with time. It smokes well.

I think the P-lip and lightness of the pipe will both grow on you. It looks nice too.
