Regarding cake build up: I try to build a HARD cake, which means after the pipe has cooled, I lightly wipe the inside of the bowl down with a q tip dipped in 99% iso to clean it up and get rid of the ash. It will take much longer to build the cake up this way, but imo the cake ends up much harder and heat resistant...as always: ymmv

69 showed up yesterday and ran my first bowl through it today. This is a thinner walled shape to begin with and the blast is DEEP on this puppy. Pipe heated up quite quickly, so I'll be trying to baby this one. Hopefully some cake buildup will help with the heat. Any tips from you guys for building some cake up? I normally wipe bowl out with paper towel to avoid buildup. She's a looker though!

Also [unsolicited advice] you might experiment with moisture, pack density, and cadence. These variables interact. Figure out what your great looking Peterson "wants" in order to stay warm, smoke nice, and not get hot

@gervais Im no expert but I do know on nearly every new pipe I have bought they smoke hotter the first couple of bowls. Obvioulsy, there isnt much cake after that but they often seem to settle in. Maybe it has to dry out some moisture...I dont know. The problem might remedy itself. Great blast on that one for sure!

There is a Pete sometime in my future. It comes down to wanting the right look, wanting a 9mm drill and no p-lip. So that kind of narrows the field. Also Im not willing to pay botique prices for machine pipes. The ones that I do like cost top dollar for Pete's. With all the talk on the forum about their quality (errors in production) Im hesitant to spend a lot on one.

Thanks Sigmund! I completely understand and agree with the Peterson pipes. They are on the more expensive side when it comes to factory pipes, and their quality is hit and miss, there is no denying. They appeal to my taste a little more than the rest in terms of style. I hope you find one someday that ticks the boxes for you! I'll keep smoking this guy and see if it starts to behave
