If I recall correctly, it was a pretty mellow roll out for the POTY last year. I think there was one finish that a few people jumped on for quick and the rest took a while to sell. Hell, I'm pretty sure they still had a couple a few weeks ago. Have they said what this year's shape will be?So Smokingpipes seemed to have big issues with the release of the 2024 Sunbear tobacco this week. I'm Wondering how their website will do with the Peterson Pipe of the Year? How did it do last year?

411. SPECIAL BULLETIN: 2024 Peterson Pipe of the Year Coming Soon!
After a dearth of special releases this year, the wait for the Pipe of the Year seemed like it would never end, but lads, we’re almost there. I just received four samples and want to pass along so…petersonpipenotes.org
Wow, a Rhodesian system pipe? Well, you can bet the terracotta finish will go rather quick, maybe the heritage as well. I actually like the sandblasted version the best so I'll probably snag one of those. Very nice!
I'm hoping to snag a silver cap, as they're offering those, and a sandblast.Wow, a Rhodesian system pipe? Well, you can bet the terracotta finish will go rather quick, maybe the heritage as well. I actually like the sandblasted version the best so I'll probably snag one of those. Very nice!
All of those pipes are great. That 313 is stellar though.I’ve got a few:
A Peterson System Standard 313. This was just called “System Dark” when I bought it, and the Heritage finish was much lighter - you could see plenty of grain. This one has been a bit abused, left out in the sun, over-buffed, etc. The stain is a bit lighter as a result, but there’s fantastic grain to be found, along with a few birdies! It’s a favorite.

My next was an Irish Harp 406. The stain came off in my hands for a while when smoking, so one side is lighter than the other. Instead of being mad about it, I just accepted it and the story is part of the pipe. Smokes great.

Here’s an Arklow 303 that smokes okay, not amazing. Looks great, and I love the dark blast with lighter grain beneath.

Here’s a tiny Junior silver-mounted lovat. Only downside is the vulcanite stem, but this one finds its way into my pocket frequently when I’m on-the-go.

Newest to me is a System Standard 303. So shiny…time to break it in!

I don't know anything about this pipe, but damn that's amazing! I've never seen a Pete with a briar circle before. Can y'all tell be about this little Peterson system I just picked up at a local auction? I believe it's some kind of special edition. Came in an elegant red box. It's marked with Peterson Dublin on one side and republic stamping on the other. Its shape and size is 8S. Year code is 1985. What's interesting to me and that I haven't seen is the P with a wooden circle. What's that all about? Anyone know the story on this pipe? Some of the other guys I’m sure can tell you specifics but the inlay briar around the P isn’t very common. You hit the jackpot with that one.
