OK, give me a bit, I'll try again. But my eye sees it just fine, and my un-artistic representation is what I see.
Damn. There's nothing like zoom to make you see that you can't hold the camera still! That made me feel like I had the shakes, geez. This is the best I've got right now.
This just showed up unexpectedly at my door. I’ve longed for this pipe and it was just sent to me without asking for anything in return. But, something will be sent back; count on that.
It does not quite look like the slated O for 1980, so I also think must be the stylized d for 1971.
I was thinking it could be the D as well, but it's hard to tell.
Well I purchased another Pete and I have to say I love this one the best. It hangs so effortlessly for a large chunk of briar and so far the smoke is absolutely on point.
Im +1 for the 1971. That mark looks like the stem on the "d" was over buffed/worn.
The hallmark for the "d" looks more italicized compared toe the "o" according to this chart, which would lend to a 1971 hallmark.
This book is a fantastic ‘step back in time’ & an absolute treat!
At just under 90 pages, there’s a lot more content than I was expecting. If you like pipes, you need to buy yourself a copy!

It appears like they had the hardcover version which is sold out but they don't sell the softcover. It's unfortunate.
That sucks. I just picked up the softcover from SP US and its an amazing book.
I was hesitate to buy another Peterson but how could I say no to this beauty PSB house pipe!
