It is a beaut - it was among a number of pipes scored in an UK ebay lot - full of cake, crusted with dirty coal-like sticky dust and with a well-nibbled stem - cleaned up nicely, button rebuilt, a wee bit of a cosmetic topping and boy-oh-boy does it smoke like a dream!

I hope Ken Barnes doesn't mind my showing this since it is a rather special pipe. It was one of two that his father had kept prior to leaving Charatan. He was kind enough to sell it to me some time ago. This is a Charatan Freehand reject that has one flaw that was used as a sample for the Tinderbox chain dated around 1975. It is brand new, never smoked and quite the giant sized specimen! Thanks so much, Ken. Hoppes

This is my first Charatan (and my fist post here. A Special in the 2012 shape (a rather large lovat). In the collection i got it from was also a small Dunhill root bulldog shape 46 from '62 and a group 4 Dunhill shell shape R from '67. The Dunhills are both in poor shape and where heavily smoked but this cleaned up beautiful!, I'm told the previous owner was passed away in the early 80's and the pipes has not been touched since. This pipe is European sold so no "L"

Top came out clean with very little work, just some polishing really

Double stamping apparent. Someone slipped up here :)

As I understand it, the "X" and "DC" stamping came around mid-60ies or later. Seems you've got an older one puffy

Here is my second Supreme. It has it own thread but I figured I would add it here for completions sake. What’s funny (not funny) about this one is that the owner of this collection had Julius Vesz make him Long replacement stems for really short pipes that he liked. All of which I have managed to fit back together but this one. And it was actually the one re has remarked on a few times... “I got him to replace that one... and I just couldn’t find the original” I pains me a little... but alas here it is :)

Great looking bright and clean pipes on show. ?
I've come along with a Charatan 610 I just bought. Not got my hands on it yet due to the virus quarantine however any info would be appreciated from those in the know....I usually smoke Falcons.
The sellers pics don't give much away I'm afraid.
