Show Off Your Bulldogs/Rhodesians

Just lobbed in yesterday.
A 1911 Birmingham hallmarked cased, Amber-stemmed, orific bit stubby Bulldog.
Stamped "VACHTSMAD" on shank - I can't find any info. HELP please

Here's one you probably haven't seen. A 1980 Ascorti with 2 bowls, one of which is a Bulldog. This pipe was the show special for the 1980 Tinder Box Intl. Annual Franchisee's Convention where they introduced Robert Ascorti's line. Double your pleasure!

I've found Rhodesians are not my favorite - hands don't wrap very well.

So pleased someone else shares my sentiment.

I have well over 40 Bulldogs (haven't done an actual count) and only 3 Rhodesians.

I'm still trying to figure out why my lack of love for Rhodesians

I don't care for Rhodesians either. I really like the look and feel of a diamond shank. For me, that's where it's at.

The one and only Rhodesian I really liked was a thick-shanked, silver-banded GBD oldie that Al (@ssjones ) put up for sale a while back. Unfortunately I hesitated a tad too long.

I have one Rhodie, but it is a Bjarne, with more of a freehand stem. Otherwise, for me, I am not a fan of the round or oval stemmed dogs. It makes them look more like a weird dublin with a cap. The diamond shanks are a majority of the appeal, IMO. Rhodesians just look like the pipemaker took a short cut, IMO.

Haven't quite looked at it from that angle.
Liking a pipe/shape is a subconscious thing for me - "I like it, but I don't know why ?"

There were 2 Bulldogs I was looking at, and the seller wanted to know why I preferred one over the other. It was only after a couple of days of mulling over that question that I figured out that I preferred the tapered stem over the saddle.

It can take a while for amorphous, subconscious thoughts to crystallise into consciousness. Look - I made up that crap - I'm NOT a deep thinker ?
