Actually nope, you're just plain wrong... if you count ALL of the money. What you say was true at a time, but not anymore. You shouldnt be so fast to call the next guy wrong, this information is available..

Here you go @bnichols23 and @cosmicfolklore

California no longer pays more to Washington than it gets back, study finds - https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sfchronicle.com/politics/amp/California-no-longer-pays-more-to-Washington-than-15243861.php
Interesting. Didn't know that. In any case I was just wondering about the "if," since I didn't know if it was or not.

? Just like anything these days, it depends on where you get your facts.. but that is a San Fran newspaper.

Alabama may be in the negative, but we turn down government money regularly.. Example: Obamacare expanded medicaid subsidies

One more thing..

There are differences in what the federal money goes to. Cali= more excess spending, and Alabama= trying to keep the bridges from falling in.

Basically.. would you rather,

Help your friend fix the starter on his old car, so he can go to work and survive (Alabama)?

or

Buy your friend 3 Hummers to drive to work, knowing he can't afford the gas and insurance (California)?

Great. So you've shown that California currently receives exactly what they give in federal tax dollars, and the SAME ARTICLE also shows that Alabama receives double of what they give in federal tax dollars.

Thank you for proving my point.

Seems fitting that Frisco residents should get what they vote for. I don't live there so absolutely no effect on my life and I couldn't care less what happens there. I can only worry and joust with my local politicians. You other folks will have to look out for yourselves.

Buy your friend 3 Hummers to drive to work, knowing he can't afford the gas and insurance (California)?

I vote for this choice. My buddy can sell two and buy all the gas he needs.

Are you kidding me? You think that California doesn't have infrastructure problems that need federal funds to address?

California has, by many measures, some of the strongest anti-corruption laws in the United States. Alabama? Some of the weakest.

I don't wish to make this a Cali vs. Alabama comparison, but I'm sick to death of the completely erroneous statement from many that somehow these high tax/high service states are a drain on the system. It's categorically wrong.

Whatever dude.. California spends more federal money in 2 hours than Alabama spends in a year.

It's ok that your were wrong, and high and mighty.

Information that will surprise some of the posters on this thread:

1. San Francisco is not the State of California, in any permutation you might be able to conjure up.

2. California is a very diverse state with diverse ideologies.

3. California is the 6th largest economy in the world.

3a. Corollary to 3: How's your state doing?

4. San Francisco has become the world's largest pissoire. The City Council should be focusing on that, but they're a bunch of shitheads.

5. The San Francisco City Council is often at odds with its constituency. Case in point, when the City Council voted to ban public nudity in the Castro, a large group of residents showed up at the Council Chamber and collectively mooned the City Council. BTW, people still walk around the Castro in their birthday suits. Most of them really really shouldn't.

6. The Bay Area has much better pizza than you have. Get over it.

6a. Corollary to 6: Los Angeles has the best pastrami in the US. NYC blows smoke.

7. Cannabis and tobacco are different substances. Comparing apples to oranges is pointless, not to say witless.
Your conclusions on #'s 6 and 6a are delusional.

In wisconsin smoking indoors in public, and apartments has been banned for over a decade now. I only know of one place you can still smoke inside, and it's a casino. Only one is left you can still smoke in.

I'm not much of a gambler, but I'll go hang out for hours, spending monies, if I can smoke....
The Indians that own the casinos use it for smoke signals.

I've lived in a few apartments that had smokers next door and the smoke would get in and hang out and just stand there. I never personally minded that much but I don't have children or any common medical conditions that would make that more then just a yucky. And in a place like san fran where real estate is at an extra premium people get little apartments and if you get the lucky of being between two smokers you could not buy a pack and still get your nicotine with that awesome fog of cigarette smoke. And if you can't imagine that being a problem just realize you could end up living next to someone that chain smokes Captain Black Grape or whatever blend you can't stand. Or that old guy that somehow smoked cigars that he chomped on for hours giving that yummy soggy cigar smell :)
In SF it's that damn patchouli that would drive me to drink.

One of the things that I love here, is that my house is in a small town, with lots of small town festivals and stuff happening every month. But, my farm is about five miles down the road, secluded, where I can hunt and the kids can ride four wheelers. And, twenty minutes away is Birmingham, with lots of city things, like art shows, museum events, plays, great restaurants. And, just an hour or so in different directions, I have the mountains, rivers, and the best beaches in the world. It's like anything a person could need... unless you need a taxi or a subway. puffy
Same here Cosmic. I'm 30 minutes from Raleigh (where I work) on some acreage surrounded by cotton, soybean and tobacco farms.
