Isaiah 5:20 & 2 Timothy 3:1-7. I've been hearing that we're living in the last days since I was a toddler. Whether we are or aren't or if a person doesn't even believe in such a thing, it does seem like confusion and things being backwards has been dialed wayyy up in the world.
I memorized this Alexander Pope stanza in high school, so my phrasing may be imperfect:

Oh boy. When I was first married, and getting used to that fact, I was complaining to Pop maybe a little too much about my new situation, and he just laughed: "Oh, you think yours would be different?"

The "end time" hysteria goes back way further than your childhood. Start studying Christian history and you will see this has been an obsession from the start. Every generation sees fresh "signs" and they always end up being wrong. There is nothing new under the sun.
Except technology...that is new (at least in this age of the world). And whether one believes there is any relevance to any prophetic tradition or not, the exponential curve of technology is bringing the whole human mess to an ugly head of some kind. Whether it will burst in our lifetime or not, only time will tell...but the potential is certainly there.
The same ends on a much larger scale with much higher stakes...and much greater catastrophic potential in the hands of psychopaths. That has not been seen before in recorded human history. Especially when you factor in things like genetic manipulation.
