I found a 1928 Dunhill catalog listing them for 25/- (shillings), so maybe double that by 1939?. There were twenty shillings (also called a bob) to a pound. Dunhill made no catalogs in the 40s due to the war, except for a 'gift' one made in the States in 1943. Their shop was destroyed in the blitz, the Italians kept all their briar, and vulcanite was either rationed or prohibited. In 1939, a basic British Army conscript made 2/- to 3/- a day, more for specialists, while a corporal would make a whopping 6/- a day.
