The painting depicting the 2 gents playing cards has such a serene feeling about it. I could hang that in my home and enjoy it.

Hey ed, I already told archy in a PM, I lived in Colchester right next to all of Constable's paintings. We'd paddle down the River Stour in Dedham every weekend and my mom would point out Willie Lot's cottage (The Hay Wain) every single damn time. Had a buddy that moved to East Bergholt. One of the advantages of building houses out of stone; they're all still there. The house I grew up in was 450 years old, and that wasn't considered old. No smokers in British landscape paintings, guess it's hard to smoke a clay churchwarden while you're tilling the fields.

Something's kind of pervy about that Eugeniusz Zak one... Could be that creepy smirk, the flirty hand behind the head, or maybe that he's touching his breast. Hell, I guess a pipe hanging out your mouth can be a little suggestive, in the right context. Even his eyes are creepy! That is a strange find, edgreen. I wouldn't leave that painting alone with my dog.
