Really large pipes are smoked by folks who have no other way to feel noticed, except perhaps by making a show of their industriousness in some other activity nobody cares about. They always felt like they didn't matter. They are either physically extra-large, or below average, but not 'small' per se, as that would have gotten them noticed.

Hipsters?

Volcano smokers preoccupy themselves with math and engineering. They get patents on their inventions and invest all they money that comes in on the stock markets, commodities, and precious metals, on four screens of desktops in their living room. They restore Packard automobiles they drive to their office and to higher altitudes where they set up their telescopes for celestial observations. Often they are too preoccupied to return a hello.

Every pipe shape always indicates that the smoker has deep-seated fixations rooted in both oral and phallic stages of development.

A cigar, however, is sometimes just a cigar.

(Just to nip this in the bud: the last line has not been verified as an actual quote by the good Dr. Freud.)

Freud smoked cigars.. I guess we know what was on his mind, as he was puffing along.

...sturdy, truculent, determined individual who makes a good living running his own business but is a little tone deaf about human relations. He thinks he knows the right car to own and the right thing to have for breakfast, and thinks anyone who does otherwise is somewhat deficient.
...

To me that just sounds like a Dunhill regardless of shape.

A Canadian shape smoker is quiet and refined, and you don't suspect how intelligent he is until you've known him a while. You never see him reading but he goes through dozens of books a year. He can spot a grammar error at three hundred yards but seldom points them out. He dresses really well, but low-key, nothing flashy but with nifty bits of style. He's the only guy you know who regularly polishes his street shoes.
