Roth,
When was the last time you were at the Ritz Carlton there? I ask because they just did a complete overhaul and it is stunning. I stayed there a couple months back and the technology in the room was, frankly, overwhelming. If you get up in the middle of the night, some sensor turns on a lighted footpath to the bathroom and then turns it off when you climb back onto the bed. The toilet is some computerized Japanese thing. I actually sent my wife and kids a cell picture of the toilet - have never done that before, lol.

Cool beans! Very nice, Peck.
Do you have them in hand, or do they still need to be picked up? I've never done a multiple-pipe commission before, but it must be very exciting to finally get to see them in person. A lot like Christmas, I bet.

Great looking pipes, Peck. The long shanks on the Canadian and poker are fantastic. That poker is a stunner. Congratulations on your new burners!

peck, they came out great, congrats on your beautiful new pipes. I have no doubt that when you get there, you will pistol whip poor Mike, steal your pipes and then file a law suit claiming he sexually molested you. lol

I played hookie from work this afternoon and drove out to pick up my pipes and cabinet from Michael Parks. What a fantastic time. I was there over two hours and Michael and I smoked a couple bowls each. Michael showed me a number of other pipes he is working on and I was blown away. We discussed blasting techniques, what he looks for in briar and how he knows whether it should be blasted or smooth. He showed me how he gets ideas for pipes and sketches them out on the briar. He showed me a very large piece of Mammoth ivory tusk (over 15000 years old) and how he takes the pieces of Mammoth tusk and uses them on pipe shanks after treating them with a stabilizer. We discussed what he looks for in a pipe and who our favourite carvers are. Those are just some of the highlights.
Oh, and the pipes are just wonderful.

Pat - It was a lot of fun, but the traffic was a nightmare. I really need to get together with you and Brian to smoke a bowl or two. I think we should try and work on something for around Christmas, perhaps the first couple of weeks of December.

I've enjoyed this thread a lot Peck. Seeing these pipes go from block to finished product is incredible. I've sat here staring at them for a few minutes trying to decide which turned out to be my favorite of the 3. I simply cannot choose, they are all fantastic pieces of work. I'm only seeing one potential problem, the thread being finished.... I've enjoyed every update to it. Well Peck, looks like you need to order some more! Lol

Thanks guys. I will confess that I commissioned another Parks pipe while I was there - a smooth bent billiard, so yes, it is addicting. I liked the cabinet so much that I am in discussions with the cabinet maker to make me a large freestanding cabinet that holds approx 150 pipes. I will start a sequel thread at some point I am sure.
